Mustang makes history once again!
The Mustang again is in the record books by running 1457 laps around the Famed Bristol Motor Speedway on one tank of fuel. The Mustang 1,000 lap challenge was designed to show that a stock production Mustang V-6 could run a 1000 laps on a single tank of fuel.
The fuel efficient driving techniques of the Ford engineers allowed the team to surpass the goal of 1,000 laps and achieve 1457 laps before running out of fuel. Ford’s newly designed V-6 and advanced 6 speed transmission was a key element in delivering both fuel economy and performance needed to hit the milestone and also achieve an amazing 48.5 miles to a gallon of fuel.
The driving team included NASCAR driver David Ragan and four Ford engineers and racked up an impressive 776.5 miles before it was over. At 12:41 AM local time Ford Engineer Seong Park was behind the wheel when the Mustang came to rest on the back stretch with total drive time of 17 hours and 40 minutes.
