In order to remove the headlights and foglights, it looks like I have to remove the entire front bumpter cover. Is this correct?

Thanks

That is the way that I have always done it, but there is a way to remove them otherwise.

I found this a couple months ago & it will probably take a little longer than removing the front fascia, but removing the front fascia is a bit of a pain.

I had searched AM as well as google and didnt find anything for GT500's but the link looks like its mostly for the general idea of accessing the headlight from behind and removing?

I need to install my lower grill bezels and hid fogs so do you think Im better off removing the bumper cover still or going with the fenderwell access method?

Thanks

Yes. Remove the wheel, well liner, unbolt the lights & then carefully rotate while applying light pressure to plastic panels for clearance.

I have not tried this yet, but I have removed my front fascia enough that I have it down to ~20 minutes. I put a big thick Mexican blanket on the engine & then set the front piece on it.

I will defer this to someone who's done this on a GT-500, like TG, Birdman or MC.

Hmm, sounds easier then removing the fenderwell linning but probably more of a pain to align it back up after?

Not really. On the GTs, there are 2 bolts on either side & 4 screws in the front that hold on a close-out panel. The 2 bolts on either side are mounted to a common plate that ties the fascia to the front fender. You only need to remove the nut that is closest to the wheel well. There will be assorted noises as things scape going in & out, but these all occur in areas that don't show. Removing the fenser well liner makes things a lot easier, but I usually only remove the 3-4 screws that hold the front section in place. A 6-8" extension on you ratchet is needed.

Based on reading the AM instructions, yes. I think that there is less chance of damaging/scratching things if you remove the front cover.

It is also real helpful to have an extra set of hands available when you take it off for the first time. The front piece is big & a little cumbersome, but not heavy.

Just trying to figure out which technique I should use. ;)

Maybe I should take pics and create a tech thread

I don't want to take this too far off topic, but do you also need to remove the front bumper to change the turn signal lenses from the orange ones to the clear ones? Yes, I know I need different, and expensive, bulbs for that too.

Thanks

You can get to those from under the car pretty easily.

P.S. I'm out of budget for this year...but I'd like to do this at some point in the future. Thanks TG.

Good, then by the time you do it and realize you have to disassemble half the car you won't remember me saying it was easy. :wtg:

moved to exterior mod techy section...

and yes removing the bumper is easiest for the headlights. the fog lights can be done easy with bumper in place, but best if car is up on ramps.

you can also drill for the bezels while up on ramps with bumper in place, but will need a 90 deg angle adapter for your drill to do the pass side, as Jay describes for his bezels. The wiper tank is in the way. i'll be posting up my fog lamp replacement thread shortly.

Removed it yesterday and back together but this morning found I missed the lower radiator cover that goes on top of the splitter, it was under.
So needless to say when I pulled out to go to the show this morning it started scraping as the wind would push it down.

Now didnt go to show and its off again. I took it all apart, headlights included, in ~45 minutes which includes getting out my jack stands, removing wheels etc and bring out tools.
Not too bad and its really alot easier then it looks

Gonna do some other work to it later today too so figure I'd take it all apart again :D

Yes, but jackstands not required. I pull into the garage, turn the wheels full right, remove those fasteners & unclip the turn signal lights. Turn the wheels full left, remove those fasteners & unclip the turn signal lights.
Remove the 4 screws from the plastic shield underneath. Remove the 2 screws on the top. Remove fascia.

I don't take the shield out, just the 3 screws on the front end.
