They anticipate the Z28 for 2012 just like they anticipated the Camaro for 2008, 2009 then finally 2010. I believe the Camaro is still heavier than the Shelby but I am not sure since Ford shaved off some weight.

Lame.

Chevy still sucks.

You know all the die-hard Chevy guys are going to jump right on to that car. But I think there are less die-hard Chevy guys than there were 5 years ago.

It could be nice, but the only place I will see one is in the rear view mirror

I don't know allot of us chevy lifers (yes I admit I am a recovering chevyaholic) waited too long and were pissed at the 98-01 crap they put out.me being a former owner of one... In fact the last modern day camaro I enjoyed was the 86 IROC z28.... My 00 had too many problems to list... That's why I left the bowtie at the blue oval dealership in 2005 and never looked back... Then this year drove the ss/rs POS and solidified my disappointment with them... Won't change my mind for sure.. But I'm sure some 2 tooth mullet wearing wonder will buy it by selling his wife and kids to the local feed barn

Good find Gr8snkbite!

Well, not like it's a surprise -- has been coming for two years!

Yeah, Camaro will still be heavier, imo, unless GM is planning a Camaro update already (doubt that tho).

However, the 15% larger displacement *might* give it an advantage in the aftermarket with an optimized intake/exhaust and pulleyed aftermarket SC etc. The GT500 has a 4V advantage but the larger-bore (4.06 x 3.62) oversquare 2V LSA has lots of potential too -- especially with it's larger displacement. The automatic, done right, could suck out some ET too.

Also, if the same as the CTS-V, as anticipated, it has the TVS 1.9, allbeit a tad smaller than the 2.1L M122 on the GT500, but on the larger 6.2 it's run at 9#, so may run out of sweet-spot at similar or less boost than M122 if pulleyed -- dunno since the TVS is just a superior design. If it has the CTS-V motor per-se, it also will have powdered-metal forged connecting rods, but will rev higher than the highly undersquare 5.4. CTS-V pistons are high-silicon hypereutectic alluminum alloy (like the 5.0 Coyote) unlike the stronger forged pieces in the GT500 (and LS9 'vette), so the Camaro might be a bit more fragile if the wick is really turned up in the aftermarket, butnot a built motor. The CTS-V also sports a more efficient 9.1:1 static CR vs the lower GT500 static CR, but that higher CR will tend to limit HP/CID at a given octane level -- but it has more CIDs.

This will be very interesting.

I'm thinking stock-for-stock, stick vs stick, the '11 GT500 still has an edge (weight). Stock, stick vs auto, the auto might prevail if it's been set-up right. Yeah, in the hands of someone experienced it might not make that much difference (since it also eats more HP), but in the rag-mag shootouts -- where C&D and R&T drivers routinely struggle to get .4 sec granny-shifts (lol) -- the auto Z28 may come off looking better and I suspect the auto is there because GM knows that so many take the rags as gospel. (Look at the SS vs GT. In reality the GT creams it, but in R&T -- where they chose to insert a 5th gear granny shift 2 mph from the end of the 1/4 mile (:doh2:) that was enough for the SS to prevail -- bollocks (-lol- as JT would say)!

Well, FMC will have to turn up the wick for 2012 to make it decisive, imo. :weg: Maybe we'll finally see the 2.3L TVS on a factory pony ...rated at a proper 605bHP? And that could be a very nice Ford catbird 'exist-strategy' for the 5.4 given new CAFE constraints. Who knows ...if the battle gets heated enough, GM and Ford may decide to take CAFE on the chin for another year or so after that, but I doubt it. GM might then have an advantage since they could conceivably go to the ZR1 LS9 engine or, more likely, use that intake and SC (TVS2.3) on the LSA?

Remember, 2012 order guides are a only 7.5 months away!!!

556hp with an auto trans......Ford will not do that.,.....Just saying.

I would just pee my pants if Ford did a SVT TT GT 500 with a 6 speed aud trans and 3:73 out back with IRS. " That would flip the HP world on it's a$$ ! "

AKA Vet killer.

SVT's ..............VK500.

I second that...and BTW.....those 2 tooth mullet heads are all around here but I don't see many Camaro's.

I agree ...not gonna happen, but...

A Getrag inline DCT-7 dual-clutch PowerShift (http://www.getrag.de/en/252)automated-manual trans could cut some serious ET out, but doesn't offer enough torue capacity.

Better still the GETRAG PowerShift 7DCL750 transaxle (http://www.getrag.de/en/253)version (750nm/553ft-lbs) would be killer with an IRS and would make for some serious weight-distribution improvement. I guess that would make also offering a stick difficult unless the stick was also a transaxle ...not that I'd complain.
