Way easier with a hoist Cheffy and the exhaust system on our cars is heavier than you think it would be.

Thx JT... I heard that our stock cats weigh a bit more than the ones I'm installing... I know the whole pipe I'm installing weighs less than 28 lbs ... I also already have the original x pipe (which weighs a bit too) removed and replaced with the phrp h pipe... Yeah I wish I had a lift.. I just need to find out if it's easy to acces the bolts to remove the cats? Anyone??

If you haven't had the clutch TSB done and it is still under warranty, do the clutch TSB and have them put in your X pipe at the same time. They have to take off the front part of the exhaust to do the TSB anyway. I can't remember how hard it is to get to the bolts at the cats. Since you already have the H pipe installed and clamped, it shouldn't be too hard to do since it is in more pieces than the normal stock system. Are you getting new O2 sensors or re-using your old ones? If you are re-using your old ones, you'll need the removal tool.

Already had TSB done last year... I am reusing the old o2 sensors... Removal tool? Is it possible to get a few more details as to what the remval tool is? Is this tool necessary? Is this something exclusive to the gt500 as my 05gt I was able to just use a wrench to remove...

You can probably remove it with a wrench but I think this makes it easier.

They sell the O2 sensor removal tools at most auto parts stores and Sears. Always nice to have one around. I would recommend spraying them with some penetrating oil first to make your life a lot easier. Just my :2cents:

...just be carefull not to get any penetrating oil on the O2 tip when taking it out ...O2s don't like any solvent/oil contamination.

There's also a wrench-style (side-split box wrench vs socket) O2 removal tool that works well tho I've had good luck in the past just using care and an open-end wrench ...be sure to dope the O2 threads with anti-seize before reinstalling.

When can I come visit? I have an x-pipe & cats that I need to get installed. I'll bring beer to cover the lift rental fee. :beerchug:

And LSD for the kids if necessary.

You're on! I need to teach you how to actually drive a vehicle on the open road & not your driveway.

When do you want to do it? I go back to Norfolk on Sunday night, but I'll be home on weekends. I'll be gone for most of the month of October and then I deploy after the first of the year. Let me know what works for you.

I'm flexible. Saturdays are good, early or late. I also have some Fridays off.

Besides cold, what kind of adult beverage should I bring?

Chef, by now I assume you have come across the write up I did regarding fusing the PHRP H-pipe in place of the stock X section. http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/shelby-gt500-150/710943-phrp-h-pipe-welded-into-place-installed.html#post9900808

If all you are doing is swapping one complete pipe assembly for the other it really isn't that bad. Make sure to get your vehicle up high enough (and properly) to allow you to move and to be able to get the darn pipe out from under the car!

The nuts on the exhaust manifold studs are a mild challenge as far as access is concerned. I used 3/8" sockets, extensions, and swivel joints. Removing the O2 sensors first allows much more room to get in there. You don't need any silly/special sockets in order to remove the O2 sensors, either. An open ended wrench works fine.

When installing the new pipe, it helps to block up the rear of the pipe when you are trying to line up and cinch down the front. Just be sure to get everything in place before making everything tight. Also, check your tailpipe hanger engagement at the mufflers as well. You may find you need to pull the mid-pipes out a bit where two pipes get clamped in order to keep everything together. I needed to with the PHRP pipe.

Beyond that, wear some safety glasses to keep any minor specks from ending up in your eye and brush up on some rarely used cuss words, just in case.

Good luck!

Thanks guys. The sound from the H-pipe and KR mufflers is much more appropriate for this car than the sewing machine rasp it had originally.

It was a fun little project. Surprising that more aren't going with an H over the X. A much deeper tone.

I think there are many with this H-Pipe Tob, but very few that took the time and effort to do the quality install you did.

Do you have a video so we can hear it?

I for one love the sound of my hpipe and Tob your write up and install is awesome.. I'm switching to the x pipe because frankly I'm sick of the issues (squeaks, groans etc) that probably due to the original bad install of my h pipe by a local exhaust shop.. So I will put on the high flow cats and x pipe I just bought and sell my h pipe... Oh well .. Thx all for the tips

Why don't you just ship everything to me so I can weld it up for you? Unless your shop did a hack job it wouldn't be too difficult.

JTB, there is a Youtube clip that I posted within that thread.

Thx Tob if you were in Fla I would definitely seek you out... I don't think they did too much of a hack job but my tailpipes stick out further than I like... I have it adjusted.. Aligned ... Readjusted and quite frankly just tired of the squeaks and creaks of the axle backs due to the h pipe pushing the mid pipe back further.. And rather than go have someone cut a little more off the pipe whichi had issues having put back together after dealer did tsb for clutch a long time back.. Just sacrifice it and go with the xpipe and high flow cats I just bought... It would be way too expensive in shipping fees to ship to you and back.... Thank you though....

NP. By the way, I used to live on West Kennedy Blvd, right across the bridge exiting downtown - near University of Tampa (in 1986). I'll never miss the summer heat there but I rather enjoyed the trek to Clearwater each weekend. Feels like another lifetime ago.

Tob

Wow. Building I lived in was right here, off South Fielding Avenue and West Kennedy. Like it never existed.
