That sucks. I always wondered why people stood so close to the track at these events. Too many bad things can happen.

It is a bad deal, but you would never find me just a few feet away from an off-road course with vehicles traveling on the edge of control at 100+ mph.
Stay back and let the cameraman get the footage.

The driver of the truck had to flee the scene for his own safety because the crowd got angry at him. Why is it that no one ever takes any responsibility for their own actions but instead always look to blame others? oh I know ....lawyers....

Wait until the lawyers get a hold of this one. I bet they ban off-raod racing like this until measures are put in place to protect the safety of the spectators like safe zones. Those would be zones where the spectators can stand like just before a jump or curve. I was wondering when something like this was going to happen. Sometimes I watch the WRC and it is just as bad. Some people have no common sense when it comes to something like this.

Too bad that it's a given that when you have a group of people at any event like this common sense goes out the window. :doh2:
Many of the reports I caught on this mornings news from some of the witnesses claimed major drinking and other related pleasures were highly taking place. The group putting this event on did very little in the way of safety or policing this event. They will pay dearly for this over sight.

"You could touch it if you wanted to. It's part of the excitement," Carmikle said. "There's always that risk factor, but you just don't expect that it will happen to you."

Pure stupidity if you ask me.. i've been to tons of races, and we never got close to the track. It is the one unspoken rule of racing.

IMO, it is the same mentality as "running with the bulls"
Racing is dangerous for participants and spectators, the fact that most of these spectators where Hammered probably added to the carnage.
This will be a heavy burden for the Driver to carry the rest of his life.
