The video is pretty awesome, I really enjoyed the comparison.

For $25K less, I would take the Mustang over the BMW anyday even though they are very close to comparisons.

I agree with you ...awesome....but I'm not surprised by MotorTrend's last statement in the video...where Randy Pobst sees it as a giant win for the Mustang " we see it differently...a win is a win even if that win is by the slimist of margins ( less than 1/10 of a second on that road course) so the win goes to the M3"
I say Randy Pobst is correct because there is no way the BMW is $25,000 better than the new Mustang GT
The Mustang did better in breaking, faster in the slolom, more 'G's on the skid pad, faster in the 1/4 mile but again Motor Trend pics the BMW...what else is new...:doh2:
...
Of course it does Motor Trend has always loved BMW's ..........I say now lets put the BMW M3 up against the new 2012 Boss 302 (which BTW the new Boss will still cost less than an M3)

The comparison shot they showed at the end showing the difference between the two crossing the finish line was pretty compelling, and backs up Pobst's thinking that it was a huge win for the Mustang.
Now I want to see the 2011 GT500 vs the 2011 M5.

All things considered, if it's a daily driver, I'll take the BMW M3 every time. My other car is a BMW 335i and it is just as much fun to drive as my GT500. Just different driving and many more creature comforts. JMHO. Oh, and neither beats my motor home when it comes to pure relaxation.

Good points George. I held my nose and watched the video and read the whole article as I have not read anything from Motor Trend in years, as the magazine is a fraud, it lacks credibilty and really is the laughing stock of the Automotive Press, one just has to look at the correlation between their Car and Truck of the Year winning picks and how much advertising that "Winning" manufacturer purchased in Motor Trend that year. :shades:
First the testing of the BMW M3 against the Mustang GT was wrong, :redcard: the test should have been M3 against the GT500SVT, both are about the same price and both are marketed as Weekend Track Weapons, but MT would never do that as the M3 would have been smashed and that might have compromised the number of Long Term Demo BMWs the Motor Trend Pant Load writers would have at their disposal.
The bottom line here is this is an out and out Humiliation for BMW, as the you can buy a GT AND a 305HP V6 Mustang for the same price as ONE BMW M3.
I can assure you BMW executives and engineers and BMW PR Buttcracks and the like, are mortified by this test. They could probably live with the 0-60 stuff but the competitiveness of the GT on the track will drive the "Ulitmate Driving Machine" Lemmings nuts. As mentioned, the test should have been the GT500 SVT and the M3 would have been summarily humbled.
I love talking to some of these BMW tools (no offense to owners here), I see them at track days all the time as to BMW's credit, they do organize a lot of track days for their owners and typically their sessions are before we get the Motorcycles on. Many think that the sun rises and sets on Bimmers and that they own the Nürburgring and Blah, Blah, Blah, I love letting them know that the venerable Nürburgring production car lap records are owned by AMERICAN POWER, the Cadillac CTS-V Sedan and the Viper ACR and ZR1, it's drives them nuts... BMW doesn't even make an appearance until way down the list in an M6, I think.

That test would be absurd IMO, with the M5 being a sedan and the GT500 a two door Grand Touring car. Two totally different BEASTS.

The GT500 would have destroyed it, and people would have cried foul because the engine is forced induction, not normally aspirated.
I thought it was a pretty fair comparison. The GT and the M3 are a lot closer spec-wise than the GT500 and the M3 are. Maybe it's just me, but I thought the Motor Trend commentary at the end of the video juxtaposed with the comparison shot of the finish line difference between the two cars was a very unsubtle dig at the BMW.
I linked the video on a gaming forum with a lot of BMW fanboys, then sat back and enjoyed the fireworks. The best they could come up with was "There's more to driving a car than just performance - my M3's interior is so much nicer." :doh2:
I know the GT500 and the M5 are very different cars, I'd just like to see another Mustang beat up on another BMW. :flex:

That's a classic! What a bunch of tools.
