Ford launches their EDGE with a third row of seats with a bunch of British Guys. What the hell?

Touch Screen Sony stereo is pretty cool though. Other than that, thumbs down. IMO FORD should have made a real V8 powered SUV instead of this EDGE/FLEX combo.

Interior looks pretty nice, and the sync interface is amazing. Youtube is slow at work this morning, still waiting on the exterior video to buffer so I can't say anything about that yet.

As for the crossover aspect, the vast majority of Explorers are daily driver grocery getters. The family station wagon. I don't have any problem with this new Explorer.

Ford already populated that segment with New Vehicles (Edge, Flex and MDX) whilst the old Explorer languished, this is just a combo of these vehicles. At least the old Explorer was available with a V8 though.

This Explorer will go head to head with the new Grand Cherokee and the New 4Runner and loose as those vehicles do everything this Explorer does but also offer V8 options and more towing capabilities for around the same money. JMO

FORD also continue to ignore the Large Family market segment by continuing to offer the antiquated Expedition and Navigator with under powered V8's and basically no changes for years.

That is why the Expedition is being produced.

Appreciate that, but with the current Expedition/Navigator has an old V8 and is running on an F150 chassis that is two generations old.

Nice vids, George ...thanks! I'm starting to really like the new Explorer ...much more in tune to present and shifting market demand. The MyFord Touch interface is very cool. I can see some folks not opting for it, but seems very intuitive and useable. The terrain maangement system will be great for those without off-road savvy and will even be very helpfull for those who know off-roading. Like the vid said, it's no rock-crawler (lol) but looks to be an excellent package for what most would want to use such a vehicle for in this segment. Kudos Ford!!

.
V8 would be nice but it's very different from those other vehicles, imo.

Ford says no. It's target is Honda Pilot, MPV and Chevy Traverse, among others.

A 5.0 Explorer would sure be nice :)

Finally got to watch the exterior video. Looks good. Ford is calling it a full up SUV, not a crossover, which is fine as it meets their truck durability standards and has off-road capability.

I really don't know why anyone would get hung up on the "it has to have a V8" thing. Frankly, I don't see why it needs one. ...and Ford has to meet those pesky fleet fuel efficency standards somehow.

I like it.

Well said........maybe they are lining it up for the 3.5 EcoBoost engine which would be a good fit for this. I think by 2012, Ford will retire the 5.4 engine completely so it gives them more options with these other engines to put in the Expedition/Navigator like the 6.2 or the 5.0.

If it works then it works. Tired and true are very hard to retire. People complain because the Explorer is no longer on a truck frame now people complain because the Expedition/Navigator is still on a truck frame. Why people make up their minds? What is the difference between the old F-150 chassis and the new one?

Both definately need updating. But it's big investment and takes time given all the other new/updated vehicles and finances. But I'd rather see Ford do it right than do it fast evenif it takes another couple MYs.

LOTS!

And we are talking two truck frames ago for the Expedition and the NAV and the fact that they are still on truck frames is a good thing. IMO The new Generation F150 just drives like a dream, if Ford got off their AzZs and turned the current F150 truck into a full size SUV with a few engine options including a diesel they'd sell at least two; one of me and one to Orf. :mafiasmilie:

There was a video of Ford testing the new Explorer in the desert of Qatar (MT maybe?). They were testing the drive train & the cooling system. Both systems passed the testing with flying colors. They said that the GM crossovers & Honda Pilot would not be able to do the off-roading that the Explorer is capable of. They were driving it over the dunes like it was a 4-Runner.

lol - oh, yeah, sure, VD! Where the Raptor soars over jumps the Explorer would choppily introduce the driver to the real meaning of...

...hemorrhoids. :haha:

...also, some video scenarios showing practical usage of MyFord Touch (http://www.fordvehicles.com/technology/sync/myfordtouch/)(this in an Edge, but it works the same for all) ...click "watch"
