Could be a cool little car but the real question will be price. I'd be willing to bet that a decently loaded one will be pushing 30K and with a base 5.0 just a touch over 30K it seems like a no brainer. Of course, I didn't read the article so maybe they talk about price in there...

I forget what it stands for, but it's metric/DIN HP and very close to SAE HP: 250 PS is about 247 HP.

Supposedly it's a global performance model so that might help keep price down. Also R&T estimates the range of 2012 Focus models will be $18-22K including a 2.0L NA 155HP DI/TiVCT I-4 (first non-TT DI+TiVCT engine Ford has done) as standard with an optional 2.0 TT 240HP optional engine. Even if the ST is not in that range, how much could handling/upfit goodies add to a volume build ...$3K? They then mention the much rumored RS/SVT version as "soon-to-follow" but make no mention of engine/HP. The present Focus Euro-rockets use the 2.5L I-5 but I doubt that engine (345HP in the Focus R500 and much more in the ralley racers) will ever come to the US. I have heard rumors of a 2.5 TT I-4 in development which could easily make 300HP, but just rumors.

I was just surfing the Golf Mk. V forum and saw that someone had started a thread about the Focus ST.
There were a few that didn't like it because it wasn't VW, but most liked it. One comment that stood out was "I want a Ford in my driveway". Ford has really been stepping up, and people are noticing. Awesome!

Found the info on the RS500 top-dog Euro Focus I was looknig for: limited edition Ford factory pocket rocket ...Focus RS500 (http://www.focusrs500.com/)...345HP/340lb-ft (Europe - PDF (http://www.focusrs500.com/documents/FocusRS500_EUROWIDE.pdf)). Only 500 RS500s are being made -- each individually serialed with unique RS500 engine-bay plaque. This complements the wildly successful Focus RS (300HP: 7,000 units planned, but orders topped 11,000 before it was released). Pretty amazing little car and built on the Focus chassis similar to one that debuts here soon.
Love these to teaser vids:

Ah, that's the one we may never see here. Even with street tires that pup handles!

It's too bad that Ford wouldn't bring the 300 HP Focus RS to the states. It would have sold like crazy. Maybe the ST will satisfy that niche.
Edit: just watched the videos, and wow, that RS500 is hot! :wow2:

yeah, I think that's where they're going with it. I think it will have fairly broad appeal too ...sort of an Focus SVT-light
