Ordered 9/07, roller was built by HST then sent to SA right before the 08 Bash. Amy was nice enough to have Mr. Shelby sign it for me during the Bash. It was then sent to the dealer in PA for the engine and tranny install. I picked it up June/08. I went with a Shelby 427FE motor that was stroked to a 482cid with Shelby heads and a Shelby Cobra Super Charger kit. It's the the same SC kit used on the 40th anniversary CSX Cobra's. Opted for the top loader 4spd with 307 gears. After getting the Cobra from the dealer it took some time and more :spend: to get it sorted. It now runs great and is fun to drive at times. A few things to remember is your basically sitting on the engine and it gets hot, real hot, no need for a heater, lol. And running a carburetor engine you get a strong smell of gas in garage.

the engine fit is fine, tight but good. remember, this doesn't have power steering, power brakes, heater or defosters. it handles very well but at times feels nose heavy. if your ever up this way, look me up and take it for a spin. it does take time to learn the car.

What a beauty, Paul! Such a wonderful 'hot rod.' ;-) Thanks for posting the pics and info.
Any idea what boost you're seeing from the Voortech on that 482 displacement? Have you had it benchmarked?
Love that color too!

???
So you're saying you got it supposedly finished, but then had to fix what they did to make it run right?
Sounds a lot like what Tony/2bjshelby went/is going through with his CSX. :doh2:

the Shelby dealer that I bought it from built the engine wrong and over designed the fuel system. after working with the dealer for six months (3 times) it just got worse. so I took it to another Cobra dealer that knew what he was doing. had to have the engine rebuilt, fuel system replaced, headers/body refitted and wheel bearings replaced all at my expense. And after all this SA (Gary P/John Luft) tells me to go after the out of business dealer and thanks me for being a good Shelby customer. so when I say that SA and their customer service sucks you know why.

...that's about ideal for that motor, imo. Prolly still feels very 'NA' with a 'fatter' power-band ...what a trip!
...can only imagine waht it's like with sticky tires on road course ;-)
It's a classy hot rod with character and soul. Has to be a real handfull since my '68 Italia (2480#) had half the power and was a real handfull -lol.

:wow2: That really sucks. I fully understand your feelings toward SA. When things are good it's "we" this and "us" that. When things go wrong (as sometimes happens), it's "they" this and "them" that.
I'll quote a famous Canadian when I say, "that's BOLLOCKS!!"

Now that it is sorted out though, you have simply, a stunning car!

:wow2: Didn't realize you went through all of that on the Cobra, Paul. What a bummer!
You would think SA would at least try to help. After all, it's a vendor they've licensed in some form that's hurting their reputation in some way. Makes you wonder :doh2:
may I add, that before placing the order with the SA licensed dealer, I asked Gary P about this dealer and he said "he builds a good Cobra and is in good standings with SA". then after sending the Cobra to the new dealer, I was told this is the 3rd Cobra that he had to fix from that dealer. I explained all this to Mr. Luft and also told him that I also have/had a 07-GT500 and a 08-SGT and have made 4 digit donations to the CF foundation. All I asked for in return was a price break on the KR Upfit Package if I bought a KR. Roger tried to make it happen but was told no. So I sold the GT500 and the SGT and had the Bullitt built and can't wait for Ford to drop Shelby and bring back the SVT Cobra :waiting2:

This is a prime example of management running a venerable brand into the ground. Clearly, you are what is refer to as a, high yield customer. one of the most important customer groups to any company and the fact that you are VOCAL too, is all the more reason for you to be looked after over and above a company's basic customer service experience, many companies like AM-EX and the Four Season Hotels :canada: have special customer service protocols to interact with customers like you.
It is clear the old man (CS) must have no idea what is really going on or all these A-Holes in senior management (you mentioned) would have been fired and replaced.
I've heard some BS about this company, but your story takes the cake and it is sickening.

This is what probably really pi$$es you off the most -- especially after specifically asking, etc. Mistakes can be made but this just seems to reflect a disinterest in and/or inability to deal with licensed vendors that don't measure up. Really sours customers on their whole Shelby experience. I guess SA doesn't have any direct liability so maybe have little sway over the vendor beyond the license agreement (dunno) but to not warn a loyal repeat customer to a known problem -- when they go out of their way to specifically ask in advance -- really sucks ...and then to mention it later, just seems to add insult to injury.

Gary P is one of the biggest problems left at SAI IMO. I can tell you a few things that he handled very poorly, at least disengenuous or even untruthful that I happen to know about...

being a CSX I wanted to stay as close to stock as possible. the 307 gears are real nice when crusing the highways but still have plenty of punch with the amount of hp/tq I'm running

like when GP came to Tasca and saw our Turbo SGT build. then went back to LV and 6 months later comes out with their Turbo SGT with the same set up. then they wouldn't let the Tasca group in the room just before the unveiling and Gary wouldn't look at them after it was show cased at SEMA. So I post a thread on TS with pictures asking why they copied Tasca's Turbo kit. Amy sends me a pm saying she didn't know anything about the Turbo build Tasca did and would look in to it with GP. Never did her back from her.
