Well, Ford executives have said the're "putting the MOTOR back Ford Motor Company" and each new ineration we see seems to support that in spades.

Some good testing tidbits in this stuff...

A 2011 Ford F-150 EcoBoost™ engine will take on the demanding Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 long-distance desert endurance race later this year, marking Ford’s EcoBoost engine racing debut. Ford trucks have won more Baja 1000 titles (13) than any other four-wheel manufacturer
Ford will equip the F-150 off-road race truck with the same stock EcoBoost engine that already has experienced 150,000 equivalent miles of dyno testing and other real-world tests as the final step in the durability torture tests
The EcoBoost truck engine is tested to the equivalent of more than 1.6 million total miles of harsh customer use in the lab, in test cells and on the road
The new F-150 EcoBoost has 420 lb.-ft. of torque – more than any competitive half-ton truck – and provides an unequaled combination of capability and fuel economy
Racing the EcoBoost truck engine under these conditions, which include temperature swings from just above freezing to well above 100 degrees, harsh terrain and at least 30 hours driving the course, helps validate the testing of the new truck engine

Are they doing this to get me to forget about the new improved "Ranger" .....lol

The F150 is still a large truch that is high priced , most are $40,000 + don't get me wrong I love the F150 but they will have nothing in the $30,000 range to compete with Nissan and Toyota or GM either :banghead:

I agree. By not bringing the new Ranger to North America, they are going to have a "huge" hole in their product line-up.

Actually, the F-150 starts at $22,415 ...but, yeah, still much larger than many folks want/need. I had heard that Ford actually lost about $98 on every base-model Ranger sold and only made decent money on the V6/XLT and well-optioned units, so that could be part of the reluctance to re-Ranger (lol) at this point?

Then they need to get rid of the union and go non union like Toyota.....doesn't Toyota make money on their trucks....I would imagine they do..

Yeah, they've gotten out from under some of the legacy costs but still not nearly at parity on labor overall.

Dunno re Toyota. GM also used to make no money on the base-model S10s. The base Ranger MSRP really started accelerating about 10 years ago ...and also used to sell way under MSRP at about $10K 10 years ago (base at $11,300 or so) when Ford and GM were deadlocked in fierce compact P/U price wars. Now Ranger starts at $16,800 or so and hard to get much off (Ford has actually bumped-up Ranger production twice as the economy began to implode because of unexpected Ranger demand. $16.K is still pretty reasonable and a lot less than a base F150. Then again, Toyota might have gotten into the compact P/U segment precisely because they knew they could force the domestics hand on price. 2011 Toyota Tacoma bases at $14,365 (equivalent of a 2008 Ranger MSRP), so that might have been the game (dunno) ...that segment has always been all about price ...which makes Ford's 'strategy' to cover that segment with a base F150 all that more ludicrous, it would seem.
