A new online store launched by Ford Motor Company on eBay Motors will provide enthusiasts around the world with access to the items they want in one convenient place.
The Ford website, www.store.ford.com (http://www.store.ford.com/), now links to an eBay Motors online store that gives Ford fans around the world with access to the eBay site a chance to purchase officially licensed products from their home
The store is hosted by eBay Motors, and offers items at a stated price, ranging from Mustang neon signs to Fiesta hoodies. Now available on the U.S. eBay site, additional global locations for the Ford online store on eBay Motors will be added in the coming months
To help celebrate the launch of the new website, a pool table shaped like a 1965 Mustang will be on display on the Ford stand and available for auction Nov. 2-5 at the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show

What a brilliant idea in several ways! Besides sales of the merchandise itself, there's potentially several other benefits as I see it ...not only are there likely reduced merchandising channel expenses, but I suspect Ford gets a much cheaper way to 'deal with' the myriad unlicensed rip-off vendors too. It seems presently they only prosecute those violating their IP rights in volume and the legal system is just too clumsy and generates too all sorts of misguided online spin. Since most of the infringement originates out of the country where the US legal system has no pervue anyway, as an eBay corporate vendor Ford can now have eBay remove any unlicensed merchandise (and potential shut down such vendors who repeat) that infringes their Intellectual Property and only use the courts for those [rarer, non eBay] situations that may require it. Seems like a great idea on multiple levels.
