I believe you,re hand held tuner will read cods you just need the book to figure what the code means

I know the SCT tuner will give a brief description of the code. You can also clear the code with the tuner.

You need to get rid of that ProCal and get a SCT from Justin at VMP. He was spot on with my tune. I don't think you can read or clear codes with that tuner but I may be wrong like usual. If you have a tuner from another car, you can still read and clear codes using it, just don't try to marry the tuner to your car.

(and I think you're right - you can't read/clear codes with the Procal, unless they changed it recently)

I know very little about tuners. The Pro Cal tuner was part of the package when I bought the Ford Racing CAI 3 years ago.
I guess I need to investigate this further.

Joe can help you out on a SCT and a VMP tune. I would go that route plus you will get a few more ponies out of your engine.

I bought this budget OBD-II Reader from Harbor Freight for $60, and with a 20% off coupon came out to be about $50. It worked pretty good for reading the DTC and for clearing the MIL light on my Odyssey, but haven't tried it on the 500 yet. This one not only displays the P code, but also decodes it for you. The Pro Cal II only displays the P code and not much else.

I know tons of car manufacturers use OBD computers but never thought of the readers working on them.

Do you know if a SCT device will read codes on other vehicles since it will on our 500's?

Just wondering.

I was wondering the same ... whether the Pro Cal would read the DTC codes from my Odyssey. I really don't know, but in theory the SCT should be able to pull the codes off of any car equipped with OBD-II since it's the same interface. Just don't accidentally load that performance tune on a Ford Focus. :doh2:

Aside from the sct or other code readers, I have 2 that will read any car w/ OBD II. The item is from Equuis/Innova model 3160. This is a great tool, collects live data, reads, erases all DTC codes etc, etc...it uses a built in code library that will give you the top most likely causes the code was thrown and what part to suspect is the culprit.
Another good tool is made by Actron. Mechanics swear by these 2 brands.
