The edge tuner in my F 150 also monitors a variety of parameters too... One of those AF's would be nice in the Shelby... Would look good mounted in the dash vent...
How much are they?

Found it,
CNF Series Interceptor gauge for newer Ford:
$249-single/$399-dual.
Not too bad... Plus you can get the RED SVT logo on the face of the gauge!! You can connect analog sensors to it too, pretty neat...

I have been looking to get the aeroforce guages as well. Cant wait for your review. Dont have to use my laptop anymore to datalog.
I am not to sure on the A/F capabilities though. I have learned not to trust consumer Widebands as they mostly use the Bosch sensor and have poor electronics which can be very inaccurate. I would just assume jump on a dyno that uses an AFM-1000 and get a very accurate reading and adjust from there.
Good luck with the install....I will be getting this gauge hopefully soon!

Started the job yesterday. Pulled the dash out, removed the vent and installed the Roush pod. Prefitted the gage and fits nice, but no room for the metal backing secure bar. Gotta figure something else out to secure the gage in the pod....:doh2:
I'll be using the soft side of Velcro to wrap the Gage body with and insert in the pod. Should keep it in place very well.....
Gr8snkbite
05-25-2011, 01:51 AM
Pics tomorrow....maybe....
Did however try the velcro around the body of the Gage...no go, to thick. So used two wraps of electrical tape....perfect. Fits good and snug. Just don't overlap the edges of the tape, then it will be to thick and will require more effort to get it to seat properly. Two layers is all that is really needed.

OK..here's some pictures of progress...with some recap..
Pulled the dash face out of the car..Roush's Pod Install Directions are pretty clear cut on how. And to install the POD.
Back of the vent/dash as it sits..
http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn37/gr8snkbite/Aeroforce/DSC04215.jpg
Press on these tabs (4) to release the vent from the dash..
http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn37/gr8snkbite/Aeroforce/DSC04226.jpg
Then pull out on these other tabs (4) to release the vent face ring from the vent body...
http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn37/gr8snkbite/Aeroforce/DSC04227.jpg
Then pop out the end of the fins from their keepers. Pop each one on both sides then remove the primary fin. Then reach in grab the secondary fin one blade at a time and pop it from its keeper, do both sides this way.
http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn37/gr8snkbite/Aeroforce/DSC04217.jpg

http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn37/gr8snkbite/Aeroforce/DSC04220.jpg
Vent assembled with face ring...then i just popped it back into the dash.
http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn37/gr8snkbite/Aeroforce/DSC04221.jpg
Then i fit tested the gage, very little clearance between the gage body and POD. As mentioned earlier, using two layers of electrical tape was the best solution to give a good fit w/o worries of movement. As you can see from the pic's, the backing lock bar doesn't do anything for you unless mounting directly to the dash.

Brought the car over to LD's to finish for now. Got the Gage and dash Assyria installed. No drilling required. Cable slips in nicely behind the vent, thru the foam insulator and down under the dash. Selected some PIDS to play with and made a short vid. I'll load that tomorrow or Monday when I get back home. Figuring out the cyclic scan and what PIDS on which screen position is a little chore to figure out. Pretty sweet Gage though...

How did you get that guage and wiring into your duct register without affecting air flow? Why not a single pillar guage pod instead...just wondering? Do they offer a single pillar guage pod mount?

I'm sure someone does offer a single pillar pod, but didn't want it on the pillar. If you look at the pics, you'll see the foam ring insulator on the vent. With the dash piece and vent reinstalled, the vent with the foam ring sits inside the duct register. I have the wire coming in under the vent between the register and foam ring, then simply loops around into the Gage. No affect on air flow.

No downstream inlet air temp monitoring (intake manifold air temp) instead you only have the MAF IAT (upstream) ? That's the one you really want to monitor.

Only one PID for air intake temp. There's is MAF sensor and MAF frequency. I'll probably plug those in tomorrow and try them out.

...........just took the time to install the Bluetooth OBD adapter yesterday, and started playing around with this....am quite impressed. Absolutely no lag time, in fact in seems to respond faster than the instrument panel dials......I imagine response depends on cell phone processing power and quality of Bluetooth adapter.....I got one off of amazon for $99....it all works together seemlessly.
Right now I can easily access 50-60 PIDs (sensor outputs)........fuel trims, intake temps, speed, rpm, voltages, throttle position, full pump %, cat temps, etc, ......even a very nice boost gauge without the 15 limit. my favorite is a double dial with rpm on one side and speed on the other, in an area right above the dash that makes it easy to view and also watch the road. You can also set up custom screens that you swipe up or down to, with whatever custom information and dial readout type (such as traditional, digital, graph, etc) that works best for that type of information.
You can also install (free) a few add ons, such as a front video with data screens (what ever you want on them) superimposed so you can see what happened and where it happened, even with gps data if you wish. You can also data log, and I have installed a slick redline system that uses the entire face of the phone to change colors progressively until you hit the red line....there is also a digital rpm read out in the center of the screen. Hard to miss the phone in front of your nose versus the SVT letters lighting up...plus this is progressive like the drag strip starting lights. Can also scan for trouble codes.
I happen to have an extra droid phone with a dual processor in it (ATT atrix) that I may set up exclusively for this purpose. That way I can use my verizon phone for gps and music while driving.
anyway...if you already have a droid phone, it is easy to set this up, and there are BT adapters available for about any price range and quality. I am also going to try and figure out some of the deeper PIDs that are not so transparent at first glance. Theoretically, any sensor information available to a ford tech thru the obd is available to this application. The deeper ones have just not been fully identified yet.
oh...and yea....I think it will also do the IAT2s....gotta go back and confirm....but it had two air intake temp pids......

here is one of front video with some info superimposed......you can put whatever info you want, these just came already in place...there is also an option to have a merged overlay of front video and gps/google map with the info, but the photo didn't do well.....

its important to remember that this is the same way that the aeroforce gauges work, only the phone provides the gauge and the analog conversion process internally so there is nothing to buy except the Bluetooth OBD adapter. Plus I can set up an almost unlimited number of screens (with pre defined dial types and sensor infomation) that I can just swipe thru using a finger....all on the fly. And the last two screen shots? I came up with those while taking photos, took about 30 seconds per screen definition.....this is way cool stuff. It also has the capability to do hp, torque 0-60, etc, using the phones internal sensors etc......but not too important for me so I have not tried out yet.
Joe....took the photos using a spare iPhone....I have two of them from switching over from att to verizon, and I keep them around as super ipods....they work well with my home wireless system.....so I just quickly uploaded to photobucket....love this technology.
just in case.....I've got two att iphone 4s I'd sell someone (16g and 32g) and a Atrix......but I may keep the Atrix to use for this application in the shelby.

thanks for the feedback......the phone I have (samsung charge) really does have a nice screen.....night time photo does no justice to it....and it is also a LTE/4G phone.....not here in KC yet, but when over in St. Louis a few weeks ago it screamed faster than the DSL I have here at home. When all is said and done, this type of cell phone application is gonna do away with that part of the Aeroforce business. It is just cheaper and easier to do it this way (for OBD sensor viewing).....but I will get one of their systems for monitoring A/F levels......I think the shelby system has some of that info, but hard to access and it would be nice to have a counter check on the car's system anyway.

forgot one photo.....the colors did not come out on this, they start with green on the left and progress thru several colors until it turns red at the left side...scaled to hit the left side at what you set for rpm limit.....and you can set up the colors, directions, etc several differing ways...and the digital rpm readout is in the middle of the screen...

.....I really have no good business reason to keep either of the iPhones.......I really think I will keep the Atrix though.
I have two iPhone 4s, one 16G and the other 32G....scratch free in original boxes, with cables etc......they are set up to work with AT&T, GSM; but could be unlocked to work with any GSM carrier. If you're interested, take a look at Ebay and I'll drop down from that a bunch. Can't go too low since even a 32G iPod is not cheap....but as I said, I'll sell both/either to anyone here lower than Ebay. I just haven't kept up with prices lately so hard to say what impact the new iphone 5 is having on pricing.

This is way easier than dealing with a phone,
...a bit...but I already have a docking station mounted and wired in the shelby.....so it takes less than a minute.......plus I am probably gonna use an extra cell phone and just keep it as a permanent fixture......what I like most is having the gauges high, since looking down tends to make it tougher for me to quickly make sense of what I am looking for.....

Nice technology. Thanks for sharing the pics too, John! Will be interesting to see what functions you tend to gravitate to once you've had a chance to play with it for a few months. I can see it being handy at the track too ...esp if there's a few sensors you want to monitor. Nice that you can just swipe-scroll to otehr pre-defined displays ..pretty cool stufff!

..I really enjoy tinkering with this stuff...can't wait till I retire (I could in only 16 days, but who's counting) when I can spend more time getting into the deeper stuff......I am soon gonna try using the Atrix that was my youngest son's phone with AT&T.....it has a 1GHz Dual Core processor, so it should handle the math and graphics drawing real quick.......since it is extra I can leave it mounted up on a full time basis.....the only thing that disappoints me is that I have not found an easy way to get at the oil pressure sensor information.....hopefully can come up with that soon.

yea...we may need to find another to pick on for a bit......but....on a technical note, the app on my phone lets you monitor voltage at various locations (such as battery, system, obd port, etc) so it is a lot easier to diagnose issues with electrical systems.

+1......I haven't read back all the way, but so far haven't seen that yet......is it a bluetooth adapter that gets plugged into the OBDII port?

I use the plx device...but you can get cheaper ones (made in china) but they have been trouble for many who try to use......hey, for $99 you get an awful lot of bang for your buck.....I showed my system to a work friend who also has this setup but has not yet installed, and he is most impressed by the ability to put front facing video with system info on top of a google map so you can track exactly what has happened (such as during your 100mph+ escape from leo.....just sayin'). yes it plugs in the port, and has a small on/off switch on its side.

Presumeably it's hard to hack into that bluetooth handshake ...so some creep next to you in the parking lot can't monitor the bluetooth channel and hack your connection for grins and wreak havoc with your engine/tune while you're shopping. Probably doable but not very easy.
...I guess if it's possible to hack into the ECU via the tire TPMS sensor (as someone demonstrated last year), anything's probably possible ...if not very practical or likely -lol.
