I took Kyle out oday and we saw a really nice white King Ranch F150 with the 5.0 V8 and an nice white ecoboost F150 in white also sitting together on the lot. I decided to test drive them both back to back and see if I could feel a difference. (I have some poor quality cel video and pics I'll put up when I can).

I drove th King Ranch first and the interior was amazing. Probably the most comfortable car of any type I've ever sat in. It was like driving in my lazyboy. The truck drove great and I was impressed as the last pick up I drove was 10+ yrs ago and it was really nose heavy (Chevy Silverado by the way).

I then got into the eco boost truck which on the outside was nearly identicle. It did not have all the bells and whistles of the King ranch and the seats while very nice were not as comfortable as the King Ranch. I noticed that at idle it sounded like the lope was a bit quicker in the ecoboost but the is very little difference in the sound over all. The interior was not comparible from an options stand point (but it did have Sync and the voice stuff which amazed Kyle). The truck drove pretty much identicle. If I didn't know this was a smaller engine I would never have guessed it. THe only difference ws that I felt like the throttle response was a bit better in the V8. From a stop this was not tru but from a role when I hit the gas I felt like the eco boost took about a quarter second to go, but then it kicked in strong. I didn't notice this in the V8. I though maybe I imagined it coming out of the dealer lot but I was able to repeat it 2 times when trying to do so. It's very minimal but I think it is there.

Over all - in this comparison I would have chosen the King Ranch becase that package was awsome. If all things were totally even other than the engine for me it would be a toss up but I think I like the feel of the v8 though it is very similar. I don't drive enough to let the mpg really be a factor since I work from home so it may come down to a color choice or something like that. For me it was interesting to drive them back to back and get to feel that the power is very much in line. my cel video should show the speedo as I stepped into them both on the highway...we'll see how that comes out.

I also sat in an explorer and have decided we won't go that route. I love the look but the car didn't have enough space for me and any one much bigger than Kyle in the back behind me. I also felt like I was a little cramped in the seats....Kelly would be the one driving it 90% of the time but she not pushing hard for a new car so the commander will stay for a bit (saving me some $).

You need to look at a Platinum.

They had one there - I am still having a hard time with the whole 45-50K for a pick up truck thing. I really want to drive a raptor....and I'll drive a dodge ram too to compare it to them.

You hit the nail on the head by calling the new Explorer a 'car' as that is what it is, it is a bloated EDGE build on a car platform and is not a real truck, it is just another FORD vehicle designed for the shrinking family of 1.5 kids or less, just not enough room IMO for an active large family.

Great synopsis on driving the F150's back to back, I always get a new one as a loaner when I drop my car in for service at my dealer and have driven them all EXCEPT the eco-Boost and continue to be amazed by the quality of the interior and fit and finish in these new F150s, their interiors far outshine any 07- 09 GT500. How quiet they are on the highway is also a revelation. There is clearly a reason why FORD have been making the number one selling pick-up for eons. I drove a King Ranch F250 Diesel and the interior and amenities where just OVER THE TOP for any vehicle, let alone a pick-up!

Good review.....a quarter of second slower....nice calibration.....:giggle:

I finally punched WOT today from a rolling 40mph.....turbos kicked like nothing and I was at 80 before I even realized...

Did the Eco have the Luxury Package?

I don't know - I don't think it had the luxury package. What is in that? It did not have a nav. or rear camera etc. so I doubt it but the sticker is above. I can't say which was faster but I felt the little turbo lag (the qtr. second) from a slow role when you pu your foot more into it. At speed I didn't feel the lag so much and from a stop not at all. It was very minor other than the first time I felt it was turning left to get through an intersection and I had let it slow roll into then I stepped on it and when it didn't go as soon as I stepped on it I noticed the lag.

THe power over all and everything about the way it drove (in both cases) was remarkable to me.

That one didn't have luxury package.....seating, etc is different and includes nav. Much like the other truck.

But for those of us with 1.0 kids, it is perfect.

I can't stand the king ranch seating. Its not that i don't lke the leather or the comfort, but if they could in some way TRY to create an interior that matches that leather, it would be a plus.
