Asking you guys if the 5.4's,while running wot in 5 or 6th gear if there was any danger??Had heard that doing this with Termies, because of the "pressure" build up while attemting this, some engines have actually blown in Termies, just wondering if the 5.4's were the same??

You know, I'e heard all these different issues that people have had with their GT500s but I put 52,000 miles on my car and the only problem I ever had was a driver's side airbag light that got fixed under warranty (and a few sets of tires that I went through :look:). I hit WOT a lot and never had a problem.

Never heard this. Was this with a moded termie or a stock one? What "pressure build up" are you refering to?

I have the MGW shifter and for some reason NOT trying to say its its fault but a couple of times I cant get into 5th gear going WOT. Probably happened 4 times and took about 30 seconds and multiple clutches and finally got in. Luckily I beat the guy by fourth gear easily:boxing:

What setting do you have on the shifter? Mines set at five turns, no probably hitting fifth at wot

I have the KR shifter and it almost never goes into 5th gear at WOT.
I've had this issue since a couple months after I bought it.
Through 2-3 clutch changes and no difference.
I just got use to it and think it may have to do w/ body flex or some other mysterious issue.

To be honest George I don't know what he meant when he told me this, met a guy with a Termie at the track last summer and this is some info that he gave me,said that Termies were good up to 4th gear at WOT and trying to run in 5-6th could result with a blown eng. because of too much "pressure buildup" in the block....I don't know, was woundering if you guys new/heard of such info!!

There was a post on SVT lately with this issue, some guys with diff. shifters, some stock,a lot of guys can't shift to 5th at WOT,I'm one of them too.I have to let go the gaz for 1-2 sec. and then she'll go IN

I have no issues with 5th at wot or not wot. Using KR shifter. You can miss the "gate" by overtraveling it into the reverse position.

You have to remember that the scyncros in 5th and 6th are not the same and not capable of handling the type of shifting that the 2nd,3rd, and 4th gear triple scyncros are capable of handling. It is best to let the rpm's drop and then shift when shifting into an OD gear like 5th & 6th in these transmissions.

Yep,that's what I do and works great.Normal driving shifting is great but WOT,just won't go in 5th.

Shouldn't that all be part of the state healthcare? Dandilions = pollutant/irritants/health risk, FORD GT = mental health treatment, borrowing GT500s from a friend = well ...maybe not that

I thought the TR6060's improved synchro package included tripple-synchros on 1st and 2nd and double on all others gears (including reverse?).

I saw on the FGT forum that some guy just picked one up for 85K because it had a salvaged title due to being driven through a barbwire fence. Other then a dent on the front left quarter panel and a bunch of scratches the car looks great. Probably cost 20K for the body repair and repainting but still a hell of a deal IMO if you don't mind having a salvaged title.

I seen so many of these things with salvage titles the last 18 months it's unreal. The only way I would consider one is if there where notarized photos of what the shunt was and no repairs where done, if not, forget it, as who knows what happened.
The good news with this guy's is at least he could inspect the damage, the scary ones are the ones that look great and have a salvage title. :frown:
I've heard the majority of them get written off when the Aluminum frame gets damaged, as INS. won't authourized a repair on the ally frame and the frame was originally sourced by FORD from a fabricator in England, so the replacement cost is prohibitave. Is this true? You know a lot about the FGT.

Yes, but every state has their own regulations. Some are stupid easy and some are a PITA.

Yes, that is correct about the frame and I would never buy one with frame damage or water damage. His was purely cosmetic though for the most part. From my understanding, FGT salvage values have been on the rise and coupled with owners who have an "accident" and then request (b!tch) to the insurance company about wanting to "write her off" many of the insurance companies are doing just that, "totaling" the car because it is easier to recoup much of their loss by selling on the "salvaged market". For 85K, that guy could part it out and still come out ahead.

I have seen them to be anywhere from 80-90K and I doubt they go lower, as the real place to enjoy the FGT is at the track so the salvage title one are always going to have a market.
I'm sure some guys with mint plated ones are looking around for a second one for the track.
The salvage title ones would be a great option for the track, as one thing about the track is, it is not if you are going to have an offing, it is when.

:tiphat2: Thanks Matt.
I checked NYS DMV ...losts of rules, I see, and permanently carries a slavaged notation on the title even once re-certified (with mandatory future disclosure if 8 years old or newer). NY uses the DVM crime investigation unit to inspect. Interesting ...never had any dealings with that stuff.

Nothing with a US Salavge title can be imported from the US for use on a Canadian Public road, but track use is OK. :wtg:

I have the MGW and Ive recently been haveing problems getting into 5th with WOT. Does not happen all the time but when I needed it. I think I too might have been overtraveling into Reverse. But it takes me 30 seconds to get it in (thats what she said lol) so I dont know whats up maybe me or trany problem.

I have heard this from several Termie owners as well....my memory bank is not working so well today but it will come back to me; I don't think it was a pressure build-up though, I thought it was something to do with a harmonic that would fracture rods if held at the RPM under full load for too long...will do some digging and see if I can find some info

The 5.4 'GT' head cooling is much improved over the Termies from what I've read ...some rearward cylinders (those furthest from initial flow ...even in a reverse-flow architecture as in some GM engines) will always tend to have varying cooling characteristics and, under demanding use, this showed especially on pumped-up 4.6 Termies pushed hard. I would not be surprised if there was some variation in the DOHC 5.4 but my understanding is the GT heads make the 5.4 much more consistant/improved vs the Termies.
