Btw,guys, sorry that I'm not around that much lately, crazy hrs on the road lately....anyway,here's my question.Thinking of picking one up next season,if all goes as plan,it will be a vert' " black/sonic blue",any of you ever owned one and what do you miss/ liked about your Cobras?? Pro's & cons of owning one??

I had an 03, really liked it a lot and had no issues with it. The only reason I got rid of it was I want the newer generation Mustang because of the retro look. It was nearly as quick as the GT500.

Have you sat in one/drove one? You're a pretty big guy and these had less room than the 05+ generation Mustang.

Unless you have unusually short legs, they are a little too tight if you're much over 6 feet tall.

He did say he wanted a Vert... but not sure if he wanted it to be down all the time.

He would only be able to drive it in the summer. I am sure that spring and fall is usually cold up there.

I had a 2000 GT and 2002 V6. They are narrower than the S197 models and there isn't much leg room either. Go test drive any New-Edge Mustang and you'll find out what we are talking about. They are nice powerful cars but not much room.

Same thing with wide shoulders.

I think Loco's like 8' tall! :yikes:

:haha:,thx for your advice and help guys, appreciate it.Use to drive an 88' Fox,it was ok as far for the comfort, sat in a 01'Cobra and felt ok but never drove one.Have a friend who owns a 03'vert' for the last couple yrs and he's like 6'8" 270lbs he says it's a bit tight but he can live with it. ...that's why I never thought about the "fitment issue",other than that it will be a sunday cruiser with the top down,if ever any problems I guess mods to the "seat tracks" can be done to gain a couple of inches??

Just don't consider that a roll bar, it is not.

My buddy's '01 Cobra is the same size. I'm only 6' tall, 215# and it's too small for me. Even with the seat all the way back, lowered and back tilted back a bit more, I can just get the steering wheel far enough away (I like only slightly bent arms) and especially trying to get my knees low enough to not interfere with the steering wheel without haveing to tip it up too far and interfere with dash visibility. Also headroom (even with seat all the way down) is poor. If I wear a ballcap it will het the headliner. Pat, no chance you'd be able to be comfortable in one, I think. I've even turned down first-dibs on my buddy's '01 for that reason. The '05-up are hugely more spacious in width and especially legroom.

If it's gonna be a trackcar, then you can relo the seat (mayb eus a GT500 seat if it can be made to fit?) but doubt that can be done in a way that will pass an inspection for on-road use without chassis mods for anchoring, etc.

At one time, someone offered a kit to move the seat back several inches and lowered a little (I think). Tried to do a search on it this am but could'nt find it readily.

That's the one I had looked at for my buddies '01. Should work ok but just seemed too unsafe in an accident (to me anyway).

The extensions look to made of some pretty thick steel. I would think the weak points are actually the floor and the seat frame which are made of thinner steel. I think the bolts would pull through the floor or seat before the extensions broke, JMO.

You may be right ...I'd just find it hard to trust -- that may just be me. The factory seat mounts are highly engineered and tested. Maybe the seat mount is not as important as it used to be given airbags, etc.

Still, I'd not want to roll it at speed with that thing installed and, God forbid, get seriously injured whether victim or cause and see how fast insurance will 'use' that to deny medical and other payments payments (everything except the vehicle itself). Like I said, probably just me. In any event, even with more legroom, headroom is still very limited in those years.

Too bad, because I enjoy driving his '01 Cobra in spite of that, just way too cramped for me to ever consider it on a regular basis. Pedal positions for heel-toe are also not good at all. It would still make a fun gymkhana toy or track turd fixing up some that given it's nice W/D (all-alloy power train) and IRS  ;-)

thx for your concerns and advice Dan,if this ever happens, what I'd probably do,would add a bolt in front & rear of the extension and used the original bolt from the stock mounts as well as welding them!!

We could always get a set machined from a solid billet steel bar. :spend:

Actually, I think someone could make a set from .25 inch thick steel plate. They would only need to be about an inch wide. Drill the two holes to bolt floor, use flathead countersunk bolts. Then drill and tap the holes for the seat frame back 3 or 4 inches from the original holes. You should only loose .25 inch headroom. If that is not thick enough, up the plate thickness to .375 inch.
