Back in August we reported that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration was opening an investigation into the 2011+ Mustang’s Getrag MT82 6-speed manual transmission (http://mustangsdaily.com/blog/2011/08/07/nhtsa-opens-investigation-into-the-2011-mustangs-transmission-problems/). Since the car’s introduction with the new transmission, owners have reported a variety of issues including binding gears, difficulty engaging in shifts and excessive noise and vibration. At the time Ford stated that they would “fully cooperate with the government as they review this matter.” Now Ford has issued an official response to the NHTSA investigation with a report detailing their investigation into the Mustang’s transmission problems, the problems discovered, and the actions taken to rectify the issues. While the report is quite extensive, we’ve broken down the basics of for you.

...interesting ...unfortunate when such things happen but seem sliek Ford was on top of it ...at elast eventually.

I wonder what site they wre talking about where folks even told others to specifically report it as a safety issue? Must be one of those hooligan sites :giggle: ;-)

Their tone seems to blame customers. :nonono:

The comment about viscosity is a good one...we often trade on characteristic (reduced noise) for another (hard shifting), and there is a delicate balance between. Great find 65.

...my '74 Capri used 85W EPS hypoid gear oil in the tranny ...and it was stiff as a beatch to shift on winter mornings untill warmed up ...but it loosens up in the first few miles ...shouldn't be ripping off power shifts until it warms up anyway :shades:  ...dang inconsiderate customers :giggle:
