I read she lifted her hands off the steering wheel and held them up prior to hitting the wall. They teach them that in Indy Racing to prevent them from breaking their wrists. They talk about it at the very end of the first video.

Danica not happy today when teamate 'bumps' her (http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news?slug=jh-danica-patrick-wreck-daytona-022512) and she crashes ...probably was just trying to push her but she lost it given these cars are right on the edge.
To quote: “What the [expletive],” she yelled over her team radio. “He [expletive] hit me.”
Is it just me or did it seem in that in car video that she was staying in her 'corrections' too long ...these ain't no F1 cars. Still has to be really hard to tame a cycle like that once it starts ...especially since it's like driving on ice.

That said remember this is only the beginning of her first full year in this series gotta cut her some slack IMO.

She is a rookie, the press has hyped her because she is a female. It helps that she is also good looking. So she will get breaks that most of the male drivers won't get and perhaps she is used to that.
Keeping that in perspective, she will have a lot to learn. The other drivers will treat her no different than anyone else because they want to succeed just as badly as she does. If she wants to be a winner, she will have to do it just like anyone else.
As long as NASCAR doesn't interfere, because they want to get female drivers in the Cup (good for selling more tickets), she will attain what success she earns.
We shall see at the end of the year.

Not even close....Janet Guthrie was the first woman to drive in NASCAR and the Indy 500 as well. There are other women drivers in NASCAR as well in the lower ranks of NASCAR racing.
"When Danica Patrick makes her Cup Series debut sometime in 2012, she'll become the 16th woman to race at NASCAR's highest level. But despite her name recognition and charisma, Patrick may be challenged to match the guts, grit and determination of early NASCAR pioneers like Sara Christian, Ethel Mobley, Louise Smith and Janet Guthrie."
"Janet Guthrie is the first woman to earn a starting spot in the Indianapolis 500 (1977) and the
Daytona 500 (1977), where she was Top Rookie. Her ninth-place finish in the Indianapolis 500
(1978), with a team she formed and managed herself, was the best by a woman until 2005.
She set fastest time of day at Indianapolis on May 7 and May 22, 1977.
In her brief career at the top levels of racing, she earned top-ten starting positions and posted
top-ten finishes in both Indy-car Championship racing and in NASCAR Cup racing.
Her fifth-place Indy-car finish at Milwaukee in 1979 was the best by a woman for 21 years.
Her sixth-place NASCAR Cup finish at Bristol in 1977 remains the best by a woman in
NASCAR’s superspeedway era. She is the only woman to lead a Cup race. She was
Top Rookie in five NASCAR Cup races."

When racing indy here, I have seen her come out of her trailer guarded by her security and wisked away like she is royalty... I have seen every other driver always take a few min to sign autographs and chat with the fans... Her attitude about it sucked, imo... Actually, everybody standing around was confused about it... We are a friendly bunch of fans at events like that and not used to snobbery!!

OK but that's not what we were initially discussing. It was about her being upset about being crashed by other drivers and her reaction to that which was no different than that of any other driver out there.
Signing autographs is a whole other topic. Your correct in that most NASCAR drivers are a friendly bunch , down to earth and will take the time to sign when they can. I cannot comment on Danica's security issues.

I've watched her come up through the Indy series and around here there is no shortage of press on her. I actually met her and Marco Andretti at the Indy speedway a couple of years ago after getting a photo with Kyle on my shoulders taken and put into the paper when he was 3. It was cool because they asked who his favorite drver was and he said Danica (we had rehearsed on the way to the track). She was very nice to us and though we were seperated by a fence at the pits she talked and Marco sort of stood there but I guess he's pretty shy. Anyway I tried hard to be a fan of Danica but in the end she constantly would be in a crash (her fault or not who knows) then would get out all huffy and storm over to scream and complain at other drivers knowing they could't hit her or anything because she's a girl.
Many times I think she gets a bum deal on things but in the case of her temper she has no checks because of her being a girl. We need another 2-3 women in there or one on each team that can pop her in the mouth and tell her to shut up sometimes. Dan Wheldon used to talk about it all the time. She actually is a good driver but aren't they all out there at that level? Sometimes crashes just happen. There is a big difference being intentionally wrecked and getting into an accident on the race track. Accidents happen and in her mind it's never her fault.
I don't care if she wins or loses. I'm not able to be a fan becaue of behavior that would get any other driver abroken jaw after every other race she is in.

All due respect Chris but I've never seen any driver get their jaw broken or even get into a fight for that matter other then an occasional helmet being thrown. Most of the retaillation's have been on track using the car.

Agreed but the point is she pushes and makes it a lot bigger deal with no fear of a retaliation that any one else in that same situation would have. She goes farther and more frequent than any other big name in the sport with her temper because she can. I am sure some of it is real but if some driver pops her with a shove in the chest like they often do how does that go down. She knows she is protected because of her status as a female driver and I think over does it. I find it hard to cheer for that I do like to see her do well but find it odd that she has a melt down what seems like every 2 weeks.
Take look at her in Bristol last yr when she clearly was the cause and put on a little show in the nationwide series. She just needs to be quiet sometimes and I would like her a lot more

I think she's successfully playing the game for all it's worth -- she knows that the only thing worse than negative attention is no attention. She drew a lot of flack from women on her GoDadddy commercials, so you notice how last years commercial played on her supposedly being used by not knowing her contract had her in a bikini, etc :doh2: ...silly stuff, but was cleraly targeted at damage-control with women -- and successfully making lemonaide out of that lemon?
Pretty much I see her -- just based on her public personna -- as being fairly conceited (she probably isn't -- I've never met her -- but that's the impression I get, right or wrong). I guess they're paying her a lot of money for those horridly goofy and disingenuously scripted GoDaddy commercials but it does the job: gets them both *lots* of attention.
I put her in similar category as Madonna -- undoubtedly talented but seems to act aloof -- like she's better than everyone -- better than she actually is. Most of the other drivers in NASCAR are downright humble and gracious -- at least that's how they come across in interviews, etc. Hey, everyone's differnt but Danica's public personna seems geared more toward using the techniques of a politician: generate attenion first and perform second (sizzle over steak), wheras most other drivers seem to focus solely on performing -- steak only. Again, just my impression -- but impressions are important and there's no right or wrong ...they just are impressions ...a composite.
Maybe she gets more criticism just because she's a woman in a 'man's sport' but I don't think so (and I abhor that notion) -- when in Rome do as the Romans do. If you want respect, earn it. Also, her biggest critics (if you graze the racing forums/blogs) seem to be women(!) who mostly want her to stick to getting it done on the track and not exploit the bikini-for-dollars schtick so much. Hey, it's a free coiuntry and she can maintain any public personna she likes, but folks don't have to like the one she (or anyone else in the public eye) is putting out there.
Besides, she really does have a huge weight-placement advantage (same reason NHRA has been courting petite women drivers) and that's even more important in go-round NASCAR but it's not showing -- at least not yet.
If Danica was all about the steak I think she'd get much more respect even based on her just-adquate performance. Like Madonna, I give her: sizzle 70%, steak 30%. ...jmho.
