What is the gist?

lol -- nothing new in it, just SVT's Hameedi explaining to CHS what was changed/improved at a high level ...probably from a while back when it was still billed at 650HP/600Tq. Still cool (thanks George!) but nothing you don't already know.

The way I'm taking the comments made in the video is.....
It raises speculation about the 2013-14's being a once in a lifetime production Shelby GT500 from FMCO with this kind of power and performance.
Kerry Baldori " We knew there was not a better time where we can a car an make it into the ultimate muscle car.....we knew it was a once in a lifetime opportunity" (@ the 46sec mark)

Good point, George. Hearing it from those guys confirms what we've believed for some time...
...especially since a new clean-sheet mustang will take time to find it's hi-po sea-legs ...since new spending on that typically can't be priority-1 in the innaugural development cycle.
Should get interesting when GM moves the 'vette to a small displacement DOHC TT V8 especially if the new Mustang is within several hundred pounds ...and still much cheaper :shades:

Perhaps the end of the SA contract is coming to a close again. I remember back in 08 when CHS was talking at the banquet in Tulsa, he said that they had a 5 year deal with Ford. That would mean that 2013 should be the last year of that contract. Maybe they extended it a year just to get to the new model and that would be it for Shelby.

i thought it was already extended not long ago....

That's assuming there is a GT500 in the first model year of the new design....it's often not the case at least for a year or two with a new model.

I would really be surprised if Ford stays with the Shelby name after 2014. I am betting that they bring back the Cobra name after that.

...might also be usefull to reality-check SA into realizing that Carroll was thier raison d'etre for SA. For me the Shelby name only ads historical continuity going forward and licensing of the name Shelby and GT500 should be re-valued accordingly. Personally I'd find it difficult to pay any significant license premium on a Ford for any licensed name at this point.
I also find it curious that the following recently applied-for tradematks (and recently applied to be reassigned to two Shelby Trust trustees) seem to be trying to fence-off GT500 variations: GT700, GT-750, GT-800, GT-850, GT-900. GT-1000 already exists presumeably for the new SA aftermarket offering. GT-600, and a few variations on that, are now dead/abandoned. It's almost like the Shelby Trust is trying to block the general name pattern ...I'd sure like to see their first-use Proof -- if they ever occurr -lol -- because all trademark apps carry a criminal penalth if intended use is specious. My bet is this is a blocking tactic and those marks will be abandoned. We shall see.

This is not a once in a lifetime chance to get this car. The 2013 - 2014 model will be around for years to come in the used auto market and as you know they will cost much less the 2nd time around.
Just sayin.

Rob the implication was as a brand new car purchase ....:shades: The engineers making that statement were referring to their chance to engineer and bring such a car to the market as a "once in a lifetime opportunity" for them which implies a once in a lifetime opp for us to buy this special vehicle as well.

OK. The thread title seemed to implicate that this car is a once in a lifetime oppertunity for us to get. I know you have been beating the drum pretty good on this car and I do agree it is a awesome car, and I was just stating that I have oppertunitys to by it for the next 20 years or so. I was simply giving my opinion to the question mark "?" on the thread title.
I do congratulate you on getting your new car ordered. You certianly do deserve it. I know you work hard and like to play hard too.

Thanks Rob for the kind words. It is Ford's latest and best Mustang to date and it has brought renewed excitement back to many of the Mustang web sites. That's why I make the effort to bring as much news about it as I find here to Stangs United.

And the question for self... will you use the 13 Shelby as always on a rainy day as today? Will you use the car as you did your SRT8 Challenger pictured? I have Blizzak Radials in 20's for the Challenger just waiting for a new home (ie, Ford Shelby). Oh yeah, what will my neighbors say as they hear my open piped Stang pass by their homes in the snow... "there he goes again" !

I heard those neighbors don't like noise from things like loud music coming from big base amps in the trunk but the sweet sound of a muscular exhaust note from a Shelby is welcome...........just not a 5:00AM...:faint:

Thanks all, here are some more pics. My first refill of the gas tank today led to the realization of my achieving 11.1 MPG... and no regrets, the fun factor outweighs the the frequency of gas station visits.
A great treat today included my neighbor driving the car w/ me as a passenger... when your neighbor is a professional driver, you experience the fact that he can make this car dance! Man, this car can dance! By the way, noone told me the 13 Shelby was a hybrid... yes, my Shelby is a hybrid as it burns both fuel and tires!

Same here but should be a 13 or 14.....time will tell. With what's going on with navy modernization, it's just a matter of time. Schedule of ships kicks into high gear next year, lasting into 15. But some of the systems upgrades we are currently doing have been split into two yard a ails due to the magnitude of the upgrades, but now navy wants to consolidate to minimize ships in the yard, which means doing both at once puts the ship in the yards for over a year....I cannot begin to explain the massive amount of work involved for these specific upgrades....:faint:
