in a car accident.

I drove by this wreck Friday and they didn't clear the little car yet today. I think it's a Honda, hit by a 1/2 ton pickup and pushed >100 feet. They were putting a neck collar on the honda driver and preparing to extricate and the truck driver was walking around apparently fine. As far as I can tell there was no passenger in the honda. Not much room when the truck pushed the passenger door all the way to the driver's seat.

But I see that the scented tree held up just fine in the crash. Perhaps a new selling point for the Vanillariffic?

CLAY COUNTY | Man injured in wreck
A Kearney man suffered serious injuries late Friday afternoon when another vehicle collided with his car in Clay County.
Chris W. Wickerson, 57, was taken to Liberty Hospital, as was the driver of the other vehicle, Robert T. Munzt, 25, of Liberty. Munzt suffered moderate injuries, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.
According to the patrol, Wickerson was southbound on Nation Road and had stopped his 1994 Geo Metro at a stop sign. As Wickerson began to pull through the intersection just after 5 p.m., he was struck by a 2002 Ford Explorer, driven by Munzt eastbound on 144th Street. Munzt had “failed to stop at the stop sign,” according to a patrol report.

Ouch.

I think there are many factors in determining which car gets the worst of any crash. Size is definitely important, but technology is also. Would you rather be in a large 1965 Lincoln Town Car that had no shoulder belt and no air bags, and a non-collapsible steering column in addition to brakes that require 130 feet to stop from 60 mph? Or would you rather be in a 2009 Ford Focus with all the safety equipment but much smaller size? I don't think there's a right answer, just an interesting situation to ponder.

BC, that's it. The pickup I saw must have been a responder parked by the Geo on the grass.

Dave, I agree. Give me all the airbags, side intrusion beams and crumple zones of today's modern vehicles. Plus 2 tons. Somewhere I had a chart of comparative safety and crash worthiness of modern cars that showed weight as being a significant additional factor, but i can't find it.
