Ok, on my way to work today I feel something rubbing my left arm.. I look over and it appears my door panel is coming apart.. The vinyl is peeling away from the panel?? What a cheap POS!!!!
I am so sick of this money trap.. I am seriously ready to just junk this thing and never buy a ford again... Anyone know how I could repair? Could I buy just the panel and replace?? Please help

Chef ...that sure looks like a latent defect. Possibly dealer will work with you? Else a talk to FMC Customer Relations in the context of there being no limitation on latent defects (in most all states, but dunno FL) *might* get a freebie replacement since it's clear that should not be happening.
TG could probably fix it in 20 minutes if you were in VA ...maybe he'll have some guidance on how to do it yourself?

I agree..no one has ever smoked in the car (I knew back in the day car dealers aimed cig smoke broke down the glue on interior trim.. The car is garaged and yet what looks like the glue or something has failed.. Who knows of dealer would even work with me.. I kinda doubt it... Warranty expired, 54,000 on odometer... 4 years old...
This just plain sux

I've been seeing these on 2005's, I was afraid it was going to catch up to us.
2 of the main contributors to this is heat (which you have most of the time, and cigarette smoke.
I seriously doubt a dealer will help cover this since it's cosmetic.
I tried to fix one on a GT and it kicked my butt for 3 hours and didn't look nice to me.
Customer was ok with it because it was better than before, but I won't do another one.
Not worth that amount of time to me. The biggest issue is trying to re glue the piece at the bottom where it narrows to an inch or so.
Not something you can just put glue on and get away with.
The "right" glue won't stick to the deteriorated foam on the back of the vinyl.
A contact glue may hold it for a little bit, but it will ruin the vinyl for future attempted repair.
Hoping that mine being in the garage most of the time will prolong this for a looooooong time.
Sorry that's not very good news.

I'll have to see what my cost is on one of these, the cost might be the leather armrest.
Not sure if that piece comes separate.

As I see it you could go one of two ways with this........
1- It a good reason to upgrade to a custom interior
or
2- A great justification to go for it and get a '13. Just tell Denise that the car has gotten to the point were multiple components are going to start failing and getting a 2013 would be cheaper in the long run.
So sayeth the Dark Lord. He who can justify just about any redonkulously expensive mod.

That is basically what I did, but used an industrial contact cement from 3M.
Also had to do that strip along the bottom.
It is much harder than it looks, like I said took about 3 hours.
Also I had the whole door apart so I could get under the armrest area too.
The problem I see and encountered was that the surface is no longer smooth behind so it ends up being rough looking once the glue starts to set and dry.
W/ such a large area, once you start to apply the glue you have to start working it together in a couple minutes (not 15).
If you stretch it at all you will have to make up for it somewhere.
Just saying, be prepared. It is a pain.

These doors are strange Carnuty.
It's not like the foam backed material of yesterday.
It seems the door is covered w/ a jute type material and the vinyl is glued to it.
The glue then deteriorates and the vinyl falls off.

The piece he is talking about is vinyl.
Our armrests are what is supposed to be leather, not the door insert.
But I believe if you buy a GT door panel even the attached armrest is vinyl, not leather.

No, I gotta call you on this one TG. Other than the custom seat stitching and steering wheel airbag cover our cars interiors are simply a plain old Mustang premium. Do a part number search on Silver State Ford Parts or at Tousley Ford, they are the same part as long as it is the one for the shaker system. A lot of us like to think our cars are special but they are basically a Mustang with a big engine and some Cobras pasted on with a few extras.

Please help
