View Full Version : Problems with Smilies

I generally use Internet Explorer...whenever I try to post a Smilie, it takes forever for the pop up to load, then when it finally does load, I have to click on the smilie about 20 times before it actually works. When I use Google Chrome it works perfectly fine. Is there some adjustment I can make in I.E. to fix this problem?

I know that....that's why I posted that info...I was hoping that someone else had this problem with I.E. in the past and could tell me how to adjust I.E. to fix it. I guess I shouldn't have posted this in site troubleshooting, but didn't know where else to post it.

Charlie, try clicking compatibility mode (the littel icon on the IE task bar next to the refresh (green 'chasing' arrows). I had the same problem and that fixed it. Possibly VBulletin does not fully implement all IE9 facilities. If that doesn't work, maybe exit all programs and run a full system antivirus scan, then reboot and select compatibility mode as above.

Another symptom is if you try to pull down the quick navigation menu at the bottom right of any thread page, does it close when you try to scroll it? If so do the AV/reboot/compat and it should fix it ...did for me.

If not, I have no idea :rofl3:

Ignore Keith... he's just a dufus. :look:

I tried the site via IE 8 and didn't have your problem.

Chrome and Firefox will work because they are functionally 'different' ('downlevel' relative to IE9) in some ways (admittedly an MS view, but real differences nonetheless). That doesn't mean they're not good or fully functional (they work great), just different and any webpage that isn't fully compatible with IE9 (even if unchanged) will require that IE9 run in compatibility mode -- which essentially changes IE9s assumptions on how it expects the webpage to work.

We will soon be going to VB 4.2 and that might fix it natively (dunno). Eventually we will migrate to VB 5.x (once stable/proven) and I'd bet that does it since it has lots of catch-up 'fixes' (as well as new functions) best as I can tell.

Joker and CD do virtually all the VB update and site maintenance. They do an awesome job -:tiphat2:- we are just so lucky to have such dedicated volunteers helping keep this site running smoothly.
