It was a pita to get the Raptor coa... At first I tried online but the order wouldn't go thru... I called ford show parts and we still couldn't get the cc transactions to work, so the guy suggested sending a money order... So I got a m/o, printed out all the info, wrote them a letter talking about how I love my Shelby and Raptor and what mods I have done, and included a 8x11 picture of them both in the garage!!

Anyway, I send it off to the P.O. box he gave me, week and a half later it comes back, refused signing... :sighs: So I call them back, and explained what happened... The guy I spoke to gave me the office address so I could send it directly to him... He must have tossed in the calender and stickers for all the hassle!! Great customer service there!!

One thing I don't like about this truck is the wheel hop... I have to let off the gas when it happens, scared the driveshaft is going to snap off...

That will have to be addressed when the warranty runs out... Same with the 100 mph governor... I also dislike the fact that you can't turn traction control completely off, even when disabled it still will cut in... Hard to do burnouts between that and the wheelhop...

Stacey, check out what this guy says cured the wheel-hop:

Published on May 11, 2012

Just a quick video to show that with a simple .449" thick add a leaf you can stop wheel hop and axle wrap on a Raptor:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3feISx32r8

This guy (http://www.raptorforumz.com/showthread.php?t=7748)also talks about a similar approach.

I also found two guys who talk about using simple traction bars (they didn't describe what kind), but on a long thow suspension like the Raptor rigid bolt-on traction bars could seriously limit the ability of one rear wheel to travel up/down independently of the other (which sort of defeats having a Raptor?) and/or could actually cause severe damage/failure off road, I think. Fully-articulated traction bars that pivot at both ends (or pivot at axle end but run full length of the leaves) and permit independent wheel motion might work -- dunno.

I've not noticed wheel hop but I have the bigger cab so maybe that helps some? I know a tune will take away the limiter but it's there for the tire rating more than anything I think. I have not had to worry about it as I don't need the truck to go faster than it does yet :) I'm still trying to budget for a cap on back. I want the snugtop XTR but it's a real pain in the arse to get and costs more than I am wanting to spend. I will no doubt cough up the money but I am trying to hold off a bit longer. If I can make it through to next year that would be ideal....I really just need it for the dogs on long family trips. If it's just me and Kyle and the dogs they fit fine in back with the seats up.

Yeah, we probably don't need to go over 100, but it's nice to know one could!! The Raptor also seems to handle better at higher speeds... I don't want to do a tune, no mods...

For my '92 p/up (which has a tranny tailshaft seal that occasionally dops one or two drops on shut-off) I us a piece of vinyl flooring upside-down -- the down prevents any staining getting through to the concrete and the upside is actually a highly absorbant composite. I've had one piece in place for about 10 years now ...works well. When we had the old Taurus wagon (with beaucoup miles on it) it dripped a bit more and one piece still lasted many years ...until we sold it. It also works well absorbing water but for those big melting winter 'slush daggers' (you know, the things that build up behind the wheels) we try to knock them off before driving in (someone I know is less diligent at that) but I use some large cardboard or scrap rugging on top of the upside-down vinyl flooring ...your rug certainly looks a lot better tho ;-)

Came up with a design for a base that bolts to the aluminum tri frame on the front of the trailer, just have to get it fabbed up...

I will be able to use the winch on the front and bacck of my truck, plus on the trailer too... I figured this way would be way better than permanently mounting it on the trailer...

I also bought one of these to mount on my trailer,

http://www.autoaccessoriesgarage.com/img/group/main/47/4753_1_md.jpg

Came up with a design for a base that bolts to the aluminum tri frame on the front of the trailer, just have to get it fabbed up...

I will be able to use the winch on the front and bacck of my truck, plus on the trailer too... I figured this way would be way better than permanently mounting it on the trailer...

Excellent!! Off-roaders have been using similar strategies for a long time (front/rear) ...and really nice to be able to pop it onto the trailer to when needed too :wtg:

Yes, the main reason I went with an open aluminum trailer was for weight!! It only weighs 1200 lbs!! The towing capacity of my truck is only 6000 lbs, so I am under with the Shelby on the trailer... The 4 door Raptors can tow 8000 lbs...

What size winch did you go with?

Just for loading the car?

Or oversized for other duties?

My 1978 Jeep was originally 2500 lbs.

W full roll cage and all accessories I was at 4800 lbs and 350 HP, 380 tq.

On a side of a hill that weight can double...so I had a 12,000 lb winch on it.

Sorry, I know more about trucks and off roading than I ever knew about cars...LOL

Too bad these so called custom shops don't pay attention to detail like that.

Most people don't even know what to look for so they get away w it.

Not to make TG fall over again but I figured it was time for a post.....I recently replaced the tires on the Raptor (no small investment either). I stayed with the same size but got the newer BFG K/O 2 tires all the way around. I probably would not have done it if winter wasn't so close but i would need them next spring so figured i would do it now. I can't really recall what the original tires rode like when new but the KO2 is quieter i believe and it looks good. I have not had the chance to get off road with this new tire but for anything I would do I expect it will be fine as I am not jumping and rock climbing as much as just going through trails and fooling around. We did find some trails that actually required 4wd a few weeks ago. Kyle thought we were getting ready to roll over with some of the valley's in them from all the jeeps. It was never close to that but I did think we had a shot at getting stuck at one point but no such luck. It was a lot of fun but the clean up was less fun and mud remains on my driveway....that was all with the old tires so I probably need to go back and test it with the new ones soon. I am glad I went with the KO2's but wish I did not have to spend the $ on tires at all :)

I think the club cab is aesthetically a bit nicer, but the club cab doors on trucks always seem to rattle after time because of no solid post... There is a new 2012 loaded race red crew cab at the dealership, if I wanted a club cab I would have to order a 2013 and wait for it... That is if I even get one at all... Nice selection of tunes!

May be good to avoid the economy tune ...lean cruise and tip-in is probably not worth the additional thermal stress to valves, etc., imo. There's no magic with tunes ...less fuel = more risk.
