Okay I am trying to get my car to pass inspection here in germany. It failed for 2 things. first the front plate bracket, that was easy.... the second thing, the airbag light not so easy. about 3 months ago I replaced the seatbelts with harnesses (not the seats, just the belts), since then the air bag light has been on. I have read a lot about loose wires and fittings so I unbolted the seats and checked all my connections. nothing happened. Then I checked to see if power was getting from the harness to the seat. I checked the yellow connection (I assumed this was what controled the airbag because it it is the only common connection on both the power and non power seat.) see photo:

it is getting power. I checked all the connections and they are all connected. I didn't check power to every connection, are there any common or re-occuring problems with these? as I plan to install new seats this winter is there a shorting plug or a by pass I can use on them? any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Oh one more thing, simply removing the fuse is not an option, the inspector has to watch the dash cluster cycle on and off.

Did some googling, Aparently recaro makes a resistor plug thing. hopefully that will get me through the inspection.

Just in case, check the connections again... Happened to me and I thought I had them plugged back in properly... I didn't... Lol...

I checked them with my multi meter, there is power to the air bag sensor. Does anyone know off hand in a seatbelt connection can cause the airbag light to come on?

I think there is a sensor that alerts the air bag system when the orginal seat belts are pulled out (as in when belting in a infant seat and there is not enough weight in the seat). Perhaps when you changed the belts, the sensor now shows they are pulled out disabling the air bag as if too small a child is in the seat.

I think there's a continuity check in the actual buckling of the seatbelt.
Also, when I bought the Fusion, fluid in the battery was low, and the seatbelt has difficulty sensing when the seatbelt is buckled --weird. One of the forums they said check all the connections, top off the battery and fully charge it. I did and the problem hasn't recurred ...don't know if the Shelby is similar but much logic may be shared so it might be.

I think the airbag off feature senses a light weight in the seat and the belt buckled. He changed the belts so my guess it doesn't have to do with continuity in the belt buckle. His system is disabled with no belt on and no weight in the seat. So I am guessing something else. Like maybe a sensor in the retract mechanism not seeing the belt anymore, don't know for sure. Just trying to reason out what the modifcation did.

I had to have the pass seat harness replaced.....they found it was to short, and when moving the seat back, it stretched the power cord to the point of activating the air bag light...it was warranted....
