View Full Version : This forum area doesn't show in New Posts?

Why not?
I always only use New Posts, but it doesn't show this whole forum?
I'll have to check other forums.
Anyone else see this when clicking New posts, or Todays posts?
Area this is talking about is "
Stangs United Inc. Club Member's Only (http://stangsunited.com/forumdisplay.php?112-Stangs-United-Inc-Club-Member-s-Only)"

It does exist.....clicking on forums....
I don't see it either, under new posts, but do see new posts in other family forums, etc....gotta be something with the upgrade...of course, site setups are still being dealt with by cd and joker...Need to bring it up in the site troubleshooting forum, or move this thread there, so joker and or cd can act on it next time their here..

It's been the same for me since the upgrade. New posts here don't show up under the "New Post" button on the top left of the screen.

I found this thread thru "new posts" just now ...but not before it was moved. Strange.
...and this was just a minor upgrade: 4.1.x to 4.2.0.

Yea, there's obviously some glitches that still need rectifying.....hopefully cd and joker can get in here soon and continue the process...

Its probably always been this way because the setting on that forum is set to:
Index New Posts in Search Engine: No
(Setting this to 'No' will prevent anyone from being able to search in this forum)
If we want new posts to show up in searches (new posts is a predefined search) then we will need to change that setting to "Yes"
Setting it to Yes will not allow access to those not allowed to access or view in search results etc

Still shows No. You guys want me to change it?

Not if site registrants (i.e. those who are not paid Club Members) would then be able to see it too. Members Only area should only be viewable/postable for paid Club Members.
---
Unrelated, but we should probably change the name of the New Members thread to New Site Registrants thread since we don't want new registrants to think they are club members. Anyone have a problem with correcting that?

Chris I see you have a small avatar ...is that just a vestage of some sort or are your Club dues not paid for 2012? If not, it would explain why you can't see the Members Only area at all, vs the problem of just not seeing it in new-post searches.

Concur....Club Members Forum is only to be viewed by them. Normal site registrants should not be seeing it, hence any posts made there should not be listed in the New Posts listings, unless only Club Members can be targeted to see them in the New Post listing. If not mistaken, it was that way before the upgrade.
What New Members thread are you talking about? Or do you mean the New Members Introduction thread?

Before the update the new posts worked for every area you were "allowed" to see as far as I know.

Same as now. The issue with the BOD forums was a setting in the ACP. CD brought it to light, and I changed the setting.
Those threads now show up under "view all new posts" for those who have permissions set to see those threads.

Good to see that it works now. I was going to suggest we do a test but it really should always be restricted in ANY area based upon permissions.
Lets Resolve this thread if it is so

This is not fixed.
As I said in my first post on this thread....this is the forum that doesn't show up under "New Posts" "Todays Posts" or "View all New Posts" tabs.
http://stangsunited.com/forumdisplay.php?112-Stangs-United-Inc-Club-Member-s-Only
Nothing I post under that section shows.
The only way to see it for me is ....from the Forum Main Page, scroll down to that Forum area and look through threads.

Ok, found the Club Member (paid) thread and Chris has long ago paid (http://stangsunited.com/showthread.php?4994-List-of-Current-Active-Club-Members)...so Chris' small avatar is just that way and he should be able to see the SU Club Members Only section, etc. Just wanted to follow-up.

No changes have been applied yet as far as I could see so it still isnt showing because both parent forum and the specified forum are not being Indexed thus they dont show on searches or any kind

How do we change it so it shows?
if you go to that thread you will see others who aren't seeing it except through email notifications.

I was waiting to change it when someone could be available to assisnt in determining that only those with permissions can view and thse without couldnt.
It should work correctly but I know you guys are cautious so trying to do extra caution to fit in

Understood.
I find it good for me to root around in the ACP and figure things out. Your clue was enough to send me in the right direction.
Actually, it was more than a clue. You pretty much spelled it out, but I still like being able to find stuff and see how it works.

I meant it was nice, you sharing info w Orf.
in the past I have asked others for info on things I didn't want to mess w to learn more of the ACP and usually just got no response, only for them to turn around and say I did nothing to help.

Oh ok cool. Thanks :)
If those that have access have the proper knowledge then less chances of issues and more available to help out when others are not available due to whatever issue.
Sharing is caring lol
