View Full Version : Issues Since SW Upgrade

This thread is for specific problems with the site since the recent 4.2 vB. All known previous posts were either moved here or copied here to help consolidate the info for the site techies research and resolve. If there is anything missed, or new issues discovered, please post here (w/o PW'ing) instead of making separate posts for each problem.
Also, my understanding (reading vB forums) since the upgrade is that the new "Articles" Tab is now suppose to be the "Home" Page.
Current Issues expressed since 4.2 upgrade.....
1. stangsunited.com link doesnt work, members get an error page. Reroute of stangsunited.com/forum.php was set up to allow access. The original link needs to be corrected (Joker needs to contact vB about this to correct as it is a SW issue). URGENT REPAIR!
2. Clinking on the Articles tab gives you an error page, vice our Home page, hence related to item 1 above.
3. Without our Home Page established, cannot link in updated News Feeds for members/registrants to read.
4. I don't like that the info that's pulled up when you hit the big "What's New" tab includes stuff that is posted in a persons profile page.
Example: I post a message on TG's profile page and it immediately shows up and can be seen by anyone when they click the What's New.
Anyway to change that?
5. Missing the "whos been on in last 24hrs data on the main forum page at the bottom.
6. We lost out Donate button for PayPal donations. Need to re-establish via PP (Joker)
5. Blog broken. Found a fix. It also will be fixed when the new version comes out. Known issue by VB.

Also replied to the email. #1 and #2 should be resolved with the change in the WHM console.
Will look into #4
#4 - 2: This is an AddOn so we should check that its enabled and also that there is not compatibility issues with it and 4.2 or if there is an update of it to work with 4.2
#5. Fixed  :look:

Is there any other types of information you wish to exclude from it?

4. Missing the "whos been on in last 24hrs data on the main forum page at the bottom.
Done! I dont know why but the built in feature was turned off. Now I know we had an AddOn that provided this feature but its disabled by the 4.2 upgrade. Not sure if the built in default was to have it off after the upgrade but nothing indicated that anyone turned it off manually.
Looks like it used to now, I believe. Not a whole lot of options to configure for it but hope they way I have it set works for everyone or the majority ;)

Everything else: Blog entry, comment, rticle entry, comment, forum post, album and comment, groups and post etc. You get the idea. Probably easier to determine what we WANT to show in the activity stream
The more that is tracked in this feature the more resources and performance will be degraded. So lets go with a basic minimum and see what we may want to add, Si?

Ok, I'm thinking just posts -- lets see if others feel similar.
Blogs were turned off because we had over 4,000 spam blogs in one week a while back and they're a beatch to delete. Maybe we'd not want anyhting besides posts indexed.

Is there any reason that the site has to do the upgrade in the first place. This one caused more problems than it solved.
Thanks to Robert and C.D. we would be in the toilet. I wonder how many other sites that run V.B. are down because of this.

Is there any reason that the site has to do the upgrade in the first place. The older version eventually won't be supported by VB, meaning we either need to update to the latest (we actually didn't go to the "latest" as we don't want to be part of the normal problem solving that goes on with new editions) or we'd have more and more issues with the older version that no longer gets attention from VB (ie: security patches etc).
I took a look at the second #4.
The people with issues viewing it had an additional secondary user group check in the ACP. Not sure why, but I think that was what did it for those 3.
If it still isn't working, log out and back in, just to be sure.
If it is still an issue, I'll dig around a little more.

There are other reasons too like security fixes and prevention. There was an older exploit on older versions where one could take control of the admin account and do whatever they wanted. vB puts out patches ASAP as exploits are found. so its always beneficial to be near the newest version plus you get new features and bug fixes so its a real hard case to argue against upgrading.
4.2 was rough on us because of many reasons but things are working their way out so we are seeing hte light at the end of the tunnel and its not the light of death either ;)

Another question about our new version. I'm not sure if we have an app for this site, but I don't use it. Wondering though if having the capability effects using this site in basic browsing mode?
What I'm getting at is I have problems w this site while on the iPad and iPhone that I don't have on other sites?
is there a specific area in the new version that allows tweaking things used in apps? Or when using a mobile connection in general?
Wondering though if having the capability effects using this site in basic browsing mode?
I doubt it effects the site. It might affect it, though...

There is an "App" by vBulletin but its not free and expensive. $199 and $99 renewal each year.
It is possibly better to use the Mobile Style when viewing the forums from your phone since the Mobile Style is free.

What Tim said.
The Ford Newsroom RSS on the left side is automatic. I think all the tech article stuff on the "Articles" (home) page George did manually. The Ford Newsroom stuff on the lower right hasn't updated sunce August and seems linked to an oddly-formatted Ford location ...possibly that was something George did manually or possibly it's to a link that Ford changed and has therefore since stopped updating (dunno), but the date of the last item sure makes it seem like George must have been doing something manually.

I just had to update the PayPal widget. The latest versions were not supported.
I don't know why the site has been slow. Today it only took about 2 seconds for the forums to load for me on my first visit in a few weeks. But I did notice that sometimes today the next page I would click on in a thread would load slow.
I'm guessing it's host related. Maybe they are either having issues or overloaded.
I also updated the site to the newest security patch, PL3.
