Ford is planning to phase out the Merucry brand and will be asking the board for approval.

People will just buy a Ford or a Lincoln instead. Taking out the middle of the line up may end up loosing some sales. In this day and age, companies need as many sales as they can get. I hope this doesn't persuafe people to the imports.

I thinks the Ford "Premium of Platinum" level vehicles were designed to be the Mercury replacements. Appointed a little better.

The Platinum pick-up is the best I've ever owned. My brother and father drive Chevy Pick-ups and get pissed every time they drive mine. There is no comparison to the chubby's.

I always saw Mercury as the luxury version of the Ford, such as the Crown Vic and the Marquis.

Mercury sales never were all that high, even in the fifties and sixties. Some of them were very nice cars for their day, but Ford got lazy over the decades and just rebadged the Ford line. Not enough differences to justify another brand IMO.

Now if they designed and built destinct models/options etc., that would be a different story.

Could that mean the Crown Vic will be back? Since the Grand Marquis is still made and the Crown Vic is not. My parents have bought only Crown Vic's since the 71 and have not replaced their 96. I believe a big reason is because the Crown Vic is no longer made.

Part of an article I read said the platform is being discontinued, that includes all models Grand Marquis, Crown Vic and the Lincoln Town Car.

Bummer. My 1st car was a red 1980 Mercury Bobcat. Got it in 1981 when I finished USAF tech school.

Yeah, it was a rebadged Pinto, but it was a little nicer on the inside and I have fond memories of this car. We had some good times together.
