View Full Version : Ford Diesel DPF Delete

Anyone have any experience removing their diesel particulate fiter (DPF) and putting on a test pipe with a new program flash ?

I have 2010 F250 super duty with a 6.4L diesel and I'm getting tired of the truck going into regen mode. I drive my truck to work most of the time but only live 10 miles from work, so about the time the stupid thing goes into regen I'm at work and it doesn't finish. Unless I go out and drive it for 30-45 minutes it doesn't finish it's cycle. Sometimes it takes me days to be able to have the free time just to cruise it and my gas mileage just keeps dropping until it's done. The whole time it's in regen it's smoking out all the cars behind me everytime I take off from a start.

This was not one of Fords better ideas

I believe Badboy did this.

Badgirl still snoops around here, maybe if you PM her she can tell Badboy. :look:

I believe you want the Black Maxx. It's all I've read about on the super duty forums. Are you out of warranty yet? Only reason I would say don't do it.

I still have warranty remaining, I'm just fed up with this happening evry couple of weeks

Shelby Don driving a diesel 10 miles to work barely warms up the truck. You need to get a gaser for what you are using your truck for.

I've been on the truck sites bitching about guys deleting there trucks. I hate these things. There is one guy that deleted his truck then asked if anyone knew who to get a tune from. I told the guy to put the truck back to stock and put the wrenches down till he knows what he is doing.I get wanting to mod a truck but ripping the smog off makes no sense to me. I hate the smell following a diesel truck let alone in the summer and all that smoke from the exhaust. It's ridiculous.
I try not to drive my truck less than 30 miles at a time. I used to drive it everywhere because fuel was about the same for the truck and car now car gas is about 50 cents cheaper.

I don’t get the delete either. Just makes it smell bad and dump smoke.

And the biggest problem w our truck is the short trips here and there. Had our PCV system replaced under warranty last year because of it. :(

Diesels hate short trips. I need to drive more than 5 miles for the truck to warm up. The transmission needs way more than that. If you drive in town with lots of stop and go driving the DPF will fill up faster.
Thank God for the Mini Cooper.

When Badboy Dave ripped that stuff off he got a huge increase in mileage -- around 40% better as I recall ...but probably would land you in jail in Kommiefornia -lol

40% sounds like a lot. He must have done more than rip out the filter. I get 18 to 20 on the highway and about 13 in town which kills diesels. When I came to see you and Jan I was getting 11.5 for that trip.
Some of these guys are blocking off the EGR as well but the newer 6.7 trucks 14 and newer have no problems so far as I know.

I wouldn’t sacrifice the truck being clean for extra mileage in my case. I hate the smell and blast of smog from the delete trucks...and no I’m not a tree hugger. :haha:

I’ve followed some stuff on the Superdutys where they were saying some of the newer trucks are even worse when it comes to the egr systems failing. :(

We thought about upgrading a couple years ago, but because of that we decided we probably wouldn’t own another diesel.

We dredged up a 6 year old post

Even with the DPF intact there is significant smoke and lack of power when in the regen/cleaning mode. Whenever my truck is in regen/cleaning mode I feel like I'm spraying for bugs, leaving a cloud of smoke behind me and other vehicles tend to give me more room. I believe the black smoke you are referring to after a DPF has been removed is dependent upon the tune you have installed, I know all the younger kids think it's cool to puff out black smoke from the stop light.

I have a 15 and mine never smokes. My exhaust tips are clean and there are no signs of soot on my truck anywhere. My There is no signs of soot on my 5th wheel ether. My truck has dome regens while towing many times.
What year is your truck Don? Something doesn't seem correct.

We have a 2012 and I’ve never seen any smoke and tailpipe is reasonably clean.

Mine is a 2010 with the 6.4 and almost always smokes during the cleaning process while accelerating. If I'm cruising you don't notice it but during acceleration cars behind give me more space because of the cloud of white/gray smoke. The first time I noticed this I went online and saw numerous posts about the this.

yeah, the 6.4L is a POS. The 6.7L was a vast improvement.

2010 was the last year of the 6.4 and I wasn't going to buy the first year of Ford producing their own diesel (6.7)

:wtg: yup, the IH 6.4 POS is the reason Ford did the 6.7.

My 15 6.7 is a beast. I just lucked out on this truck. This was my first diesel and Ford fixed all the problems from the early years and put the upgraded bits in our trucks. Better turbos better cooling and more H/P and torque. My truck has been pretty much trouble free. I had the oil pan leak and a couple recalls and that's it.
Ford had lots of problems with getting engines from outside companies. the 6.0 was the worst and the 6.4 was right there also. I hear that the 7.2 was a good motor.

68fastback

The 7.3 was Navistar International crap ...lots of problems -- some major problems -- and when International got the crazy idea it could simply start to renege on it's supplier defect remedy contractual obligations, Ford decided it would be more beneficial overall to do their own diesel and jettison the crap rather than push the lawsuits into hyperdrive, and which Ford would ultimately win, but risk the media (who have the comprehension of ants on borax -lol) badmouthing all Ford trucks by association ...likely the reason International thought they could just keep dragging their contractual feet in the first place.
