Just wanted to send everyone a special Happy Memorial Day Weekend. Remember those that this weekend is for, and have a hell of a time doing it. That's what it is all about.

That is nice and it says it all. I won't be doing anything special. Going to the grand daughters birthday party tomorrow. Other than that, the weekend is free for outside the house chores.

Pretty much what we are doing. I think Badboy has a "date" with Badgirl Jr and friends tomorrow night to see Nightmare on Elm street. Seekonk Speedway on Sunday with family and friends ! Monday relaxing :)
Seekonk? I'm just south of you in Newport. Do they race there every weekend?

Maybe dinner one night during that week after the long weekend. I can grab my dad's Versa and Dave and I can drag up and down Route 3.

I don't get a three day weekend. I will spend all day Monday in airports and on a plane to get to Portland for a meeting that starts at 8:00 Tuesday. Noone knows why they couldn't wait a week. It seems that an artificial schedule is more important than holidays. The last one was around Easter (in Europe none the less).
I no longer travel voluntarily on my own time. Which means flying on a work day. Except for this one. I asked for the Tuesday instead of Friday since otherwise I would have had to fly on Saturday. All things considered the Monday is better than losing a Saturday the next week.

This thread sure has a lot of dust on it but, it is a worthwhile place to be reminded to remember and honor all of those who gave their lives so we have one.

Amen to that.
Aside from it being a long weekend opportunity when I was a work-a-day person, for me growing up as a kid it was always a remembrance of those who have served and made the ultimate sacrifice.
We all have what we have because they all gave what they gave when called upon to serve.
RIP.

It's about the ice cream, right.
Ice cream?

Well, he did take a brief break from his increadibly busy day year of securing his legacy for his presidential library to place a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier ...after that, ice cream and a 'Happy' Memorial Day seems fitting for a know-nothing jack-azz who thinks America is the great global opressor!

Every Memorial Day and Veterans Day I am reminded of one of the finest pieces of journalism I've ever read (note 1). The article was published in the Rocky Mountain News - which was closed down - named "Final Salute". The article was later expanded into a book.
http://www.pdnphotooftheday.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Heisler1.jpg
The images and the story both won Pulitzer prizes.
(Note 1) The Rocky also did the multi-week story of worst school bus crash titled "The Crossing".
