After a long hunt fraught with many dead ends, the shooters at KGP Photography caught this highly revealing look at the face of the ’15 Mustang.

The need for optimum engine cooling and aerodynamic efficiency has provided an unobscured look at the next-generation Mustang's hood and front fascia. Photographed during high-speed, high-performance tests at a race circuit, Ford engineers removed every shred of the Mustang prototype's heavy camouflage from the A-pillar, forward. The degree of influence that Ford's Evos concept has had on the next Mustang's production front fascia design is now clear.

How Much Evos Do We See in the Mustang's Face?
While the influence is clearly there, the hypermodernity and show-car flash of the Evos concept has been tempered by the Mustang's musclecar ethos, bringing the design back closer to the old school. The shape of the grille opening is very similar to the Evos, but the concept's smooth finish gives way to a chunkier treatment on the production Mustang. The grille work is set deep within the outer aperture, with two angled, vertical posts set wide at the corners bringing in some of Ford's Kinetic design influence. The galloping Mustang logo can be seen prominently at the grille's center, slightly obscured by tape.

How About Those Headlights?
While the headlights are covered in black tape—hiding any sign of their internal design—their shape and placement are still visible. Although not as long and slit-like as on the Evos, the Mustang's headlights clearly have an Evos influence, and a modernized design when compared to the current model. As suggested earlier, the headlights have a Ford Fusion feel, but they have an appropriate "Mustang" essence and seem well integrated into this prototype's design.

Does the Hood Design Suggest Power?
The gaping grille sweeps back into a complex, shapely hood design, with a strong, prominent shelf stretching back from the headlights, and a nicely contoured hood bulge outlined by some sharply chiseled elements at its outer edges. Signs of two panels placed on the hood—just outside of the central bulge—suggest some form of vents or other design flourish.

The prototype's front bumper vaguely follows the Evos concept's stylized lead, but the Mustang gets a far more chiseled, defined treatment. The wide, low-center air-intake gets angled, up-turned corners, leading into large, flared outer intakes. The outer intakes get complex surface development, flaring out into the side and top of the front bumper, while jutting out at the bottom into sharp points before rejoining the center intake. A slim diffuser sits under everything else on the front fascia, adding complexity to the design while planting the nose for the proper musclecar stance.

What Else Can We See?
The chiseled front diffuser continues into sharply creased side sills, adding some real definition to the lower flanks. Those sills continue around into the rear bumper, sweeping up into the bumper's rear valance, ultimately framing in the Mustang's round, dual exhaust tips. While the rear end remains thoroughly camouflaged, there is more definition around the rear bumper, promising an equally focused, purposeful design at the rear as on the front.

There are also signs of a sharp character line running along the Mustang's belt line, terminating into the front fender about equal to the top of the wheelwell.

Whats with the ero look. Come on ford get it together. You make the 07-09 Gt500 and it was a look that would kill now the 10-14 Mustang look just like the GT500. Now cant hardly tell them apart. The V6 and the GT look the same You can't hardly tell them apart. Where is the inagination at Ford. They cant even design a Mustang that is different than the Fusion oh wait I see there is a horse in the grill of the Mustang. My bad

I dunno. With the '13 and '14 Mustangs the cars are all more clearly related and better looking (IMHO). At the same time it's very easy to tell a V6 from a GT from a GT500. Even my wife can do it, and that's saying something. lol

Mustang sales have dropped and the current car has been in production for nearly a decade. It's time for a change.

I agree ...the '05-up was awesome, the '10-up pretty good, the '13-up (esp GT500) simply sweet, but this one will really set Mustang on a world-class course: lighter, smaller, IRS, fast and slick -- but still very 'Mustang' ...I guess I have to reserve judgement until I can actually see the new pony (April 17, 2014 -lol) but I think they're on the right track ...from what can be seen. The new design language is refreshing and modern but still very mustang.

I think the bigger 'surprise' will be from the A-pillar back ...been lots of rumors of a true fastback profile ...maybe that's why that's still cloaked -- even while doing track testing since all that crap certainly impacts aero :shades: ...we shall see, but when competing designers who have previewed it call another designer's design "stunning" it probably looks pretty good -- I've red that designers just don't complement other designers' designs like that. I guess we shall see.

I think that design language has LOTS of potential -- hope it can live up to and exploit it effectively.

Have to see whole thing to base my opinion...
Unlike some I am not a Blue Oval loyalist ... But I am interested to see what the 15 looks like

If it goes Euro, I would be an early person to bail for the '14 Corvette. That car is more bang for the buck. Only if they would make a split window 427 in the '14.

The '14 Corvette is the 1st GM product in a long time that I would possibly be willing to buy. Very hot car.

I'd probably feel really dirty for buying one though.

I guess I'm over the hill beyond help. I don't like the new vette either, the Camaro looking back end makes it look cheap imo. I guess I need to keep my old vintage iron and find my old "brick" phone.

OMG!!!! Agree 1000000000000%%
I really loved the concept stingray split window they were considering back a few years...

My favorite car of all time was my dads 1963 corvette stingray split window coupe

Me neither. They finally fixed the front "guppy" look of the 'vette (took long enough) but now they screwed up the rear look ...but overall it's pretty nice (for a jebby -lol) ...nice side lines too. Overall I find it only marginally more attractive (no guppy) than the outgoing one.

My 2015/16 Mustang predictions:

No "Shelby" of any kind. CS has passed (RIP) and so has the model name.
Two(?) specialty models in the first two years: GT350 and/or a Mach-I and/or an SVT Cobra
5.2L NA DOHC with PWTA (spray-bore), killer heads, BIG static CR, and with both DI and Ti-VCT (to exploit and control the big static CR dynamically)
BIG NA HP -- for top dog model (remains to be seen which that is)
Top dog model performance similar to '13/14 GT500 but with IRS and substantially better handling on real world roads AND on the track
4-7 more mpg (EPA highway) than '14 GT500
Otto cycle for power but a dynamically modified compression cycle (modified Atkinson) for economy -- all dynamically controlled by your right foot (patents pay off!)
Priced substantially under the '14 GT500 track-pak
A good 300-400# lighter than GT500D
id I mention a true Fastback roofline? !!!
No uro-trash wanna-be, just stunning all-Mustang styling -- more retro than Ford has hinted yet a fresh, affordable, modern interpretation of the performance Grand Tourer.
...i.e. the Mustang I've waited decades to see Ford build !!!

Anyhow, just my reading of the tea leaves  ...but, if the above isn'I exciting, hard to imagine what would be.

before We didn't have the newer body style, I wanted it badly, now that we have next to my car and 07 the s197 is by far a meaner looking car. On other hands for the 2015 it may be real nice I saw back it kinda looked like a 10-14 kinda I saw some resemblance, the 15 was next to a 10-12 and it is a lot smaller so its definetly going to be a quick little pony, Im hoping they bring back the muscle look in it soon

This is looking pretty darn close to what it might be (http://www.carbuzz.com/news/2013/8/26/New-Ford-Mustang-Comes-into-Focus-7715932/)...has the right retro cues, looks like real/functional ground effects ...screams Grand Touring yet still so nice and mean looking!!

Fast, functional, still unmistakeably Mustang, yet a thoroughly modern ride ...yep, it's about time!!! :frolic:

Wonder how long it will take Ford to play out the performance bullets -- I figure one to neutralize the Z28 and another for whatever -lol.

Yeah, it sort of does ...hadn't noticed that  ...I think the side might not be quite right (the spy pic looked more fluid tho hard to tell) but overall I'm diggin' it too :frolic: ;-)
