View Full Version : 2009 Mustang Shelby GT500 KR Shocks / Struts AND Springs
I seen this on ebay and was wondering if this set up is any good and if it would work on my 09 vert?
Anyone know how much this would lower an 09 vert?
Looking for constructive feedback.

I would be curious if this would be a way to lower the car as well.

The KR does have a decent stance, so it might be a good choice at a very decent price.
That said, a good set of adjustable coil-overs would let you set heights however you like.

I think JTB said he had this setup?

I've had the KR strut and shock combo for years and it is a quality package, I opted for the FORD Racing springs though, as the drop from the KR springs is nominal from stock.

The red rear sway bar is the fastest part on the car... Nice!!
Update:
Last night I installed the KR Handling Kit, (shocks, struts and springs) on my 09 vert. I also installed the Ford Racing strut mounts M-18183-C, the Ford Racing Jounce Bumper Kit M-5570-A and the Energy Suspension rear coil spring isolators 9.6106. I used all new nuts and bolts.
Because its winter here in N/W Indiana I won't have the chance to test drive it until spring.
The rear dropped 1" lower and the front dropped 1/4" lower. I was hoping for a little more of a drop but it does look 100% better than it did before. I can't wait to drive it and see how it handles. The install took me about 3 hours and was actually very easy to do.
I bought the KR Handling Kit off ebay through Gary Yoemans Ford for $167.95 including delivery. They raised there price now to $177.95 which still a good deal. Last October when I started this thread the cost was $299.99 so I think I got a good deal. They have a few kits left.

Now all you need is some KR badging and you can tell everyone you have a 1:1 KR vert. Wait, aren't you missing the KR reservoirs...................

 My car isn't a KR and I wont badge it as a KR, I just like some of the options the KR has.

I bet the front suspension will settle-in another 1/4" or so once you get a few miles on the springs

I seen that also. Not worth the $9400 IMO, maybe 4 or 5K.
I would like my next mod to be wheels and tires. I'm just trying to convince myself its OK to spend 5K on them.

Just finished the installation the the KR handling kit on both my 2007 and my wifes 2009 GT500. Did the adjustable pan hard bar and new strut mounts and yada yada yada yada. Had to take out the boom box in both cars to get the passenger side rear shock in. I want to thank Ivan (6-Speed) for his great installation write ups on the entire installation. I had my I-Pad with me and followed his instructions on every step. They were so helpful. I would not of done this mod if his write up did not exist. THANK YOU Ivan !!http://www.teamshelby.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/salute.gif
Both cars test drove great. http://www.teamshelby.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/yup.gif They both feel much tighter around corners. Awesome. I plan on getting both cars aligned soon so the tires wear correctly. The cars drove fine and perfectly straight, but I know that a alignment is needed after front struts are replaced.

Just the Brake Bezels, no brake cooling kit?

Since I don't track the car I didn't think I needed it. Although it could come in handy blowing the brake dust off the front wheels.

Today I installed the KR front sway bar Tana's http://www.teamshelby.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/wub.png GT500 and mine. I compared the 2 bars very closely and found 5 things to note on the sway bars.
1. The part tag # is different on each bar. The Orange tag is the factory GT500 bar. The White tag is the KR bar Shelby sent me.

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x53/Grabrrr/KR%20Handling%20kit/020.jpg
2. The factory GT500 sway bar has an additional mounting hole at each end that was not being used on my GT500. The KR bar does not have the extra holes.
http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x53/Grabrrr/KR%20Handling%20kit/002.jpg
3. The factory GT500 bar weighs 14.6 pounds. The KR bar weighs 12.4 pounds. (2.2 pounds lighter).
http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x53/Grabrrr/KR%20Handling%20kit/018.jpg
4. I measured the outside diameter of both bars in several spots. They are the same. I fuzz over 50.
http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x53/Grabrrr/KR%20Handling%20kit/004.jpg
5. The shape is exactly the same.

You probably noticed that the KR bar is 2.2 pounds lighter. The wall thickness of the tube steel sway bar is thinner. This makes the bar react differently. Corners better and hugs the road better.
