Just saw the very first 2015 Ford Mustang commercial on American Idol ...Whaaaa?! ...Ford has said repeatedly that availability will not be until the fall 2014. Very strange indeed, don't you think?
Even if the car was going to be available on the 'normal' schedule, pricing and order banks would not be for another 3 weeks or so ...strange.
One thing's for sure ...it's no accident, so what gives? Any thoughts?

Just a guess, but maybe Ford is trying to sell some Mustangs.
Sounds crazy, I know, but it could be.

If they know it won't be ready until late in the year, they're probably trying to get those who were going to buy a GM/Dodge this spring/summer to hold off for another 6 months.

 ...but it's not available for at least 8 months ...seems it must be a defensive move vs selling.

...that makes the most sense -- purchase deferrals -- especially since Dodge is refreshed and it's rumored Chevy will offer no less than 6 engines in Camaro incl a twin turbo 3.6 V6 and no less than three V8s: 6.2., 7.0 and a SC V8 (likely a 6.2 but unspecified as best as I can tell). Also GM is reportedly trying to strip lots of weight out of the '15/'16 (we shall see about that). Also the American Idol audience nicely embraces the Mustang target audience, I think.
There have been rumors (which Ford reps denied -- and later sort of un-denied -lol) that there will be an early run of 1,000 or so prior to general availability. The ragmags speculated this was a '64.5 tribute and will fetch big ADMs, but others speculate it's an attempt to reward the best dealerships with early floor models to help build demand subsequent to the 4/17 anniversary but still well in advance of production builds. I'm thinking more the latter tho certainly there may be collectors who would pay ADMs for a non hi-po "'14.5" ...if they turn out to exist at all.

Creating hype.
I guess you can't beat the drum too early ...especially for such a signif introduction.

Very interesting ...and that's just 2 months later than usual schedulling ...would put early units at dealers in September which is effectively the fall.
Makes sense to me -- thanks!
