I don't know about anyone else but they are HUGE on my PC and are about double the width of the forum. Every time a page comes up you can not see anything without scrolling down below the fold.
Thanks in advance for accommodating me!

OK.
Try this:
In the lower left corner of the site page, in the bottom red bar, click on the little arrow next to "Default Style". Then click "StangsUnited Red". See if that changes anything. It might be set wrong in the style you are using.

I think that's it, Greg ...I'm 1920 x 1080 and it's fine on "red" but scales incorrectly on "default"

Better than before. I believe the banner is sized for 1200 x 1000, or something like that.
I don't know much about the banner, and even less about how it's configured. I was going from memory of something somebody said in one of the threads.
The issue is, if it is too small, then the people with resolutions set high will see a tiny little banner across the top.
I'll see if one of the vB gurus will chime in...

this was the issue before, and affected everyone. Joker had to resize it to fit properly. Suggest John log out, then back in under the Red option. Maybe it'll reset for him.

The problem is that in the red style title image is set to:
images/titleimage/logo.php (1140x229)
Whereas the default blue style title image is set to:
images/logo/Banners/SUBanner02d.png (1520x319)
I have just changed them to both use the "images/titleimage/logo.php" so there shouldnt be any visible change of the logo when changing styles between blue and red.

The issue is that not everyone runs the same screen resolution. My bet is that 2objshelbys is running a small screen resolution so the minimum width of the banner, 1140, is still too wide.
1024 is the new minimum width screen resolution now a days. We really should have the image resized down a bit to that and also optimized for file size as its too big. I have to wait for it to always be the last thing to download when browsing pages.

I can size it down if needed but anyone that has a big monitor, ie. a 21" or bigger, it's going to look small I'm betting. I'm on a 24" and thinking about getting a 27".

My monitor is plenty big in resolution but only 14" wide. It is 1600x1200 but I size browser windows a little over half that to leave room for other things. The result of the banner is it is the only thing that extends beyond the right margin but it forces the bottom scroll bar.
P.S. It's a laptop - that's all I have. Gave up on big clunky dekstops years ago.

Ok so you are videing hte browser at about 800 pixels wide. Really small by todays standards but you could always get an external second monitor if you need extra real estate. Then you can have the browser opened full screen

Don't know what to tell you. If your resizing your window to work on other stuff instead of minimizing it, then that's your trade off. I just checked about 10 other sites including several ford sites, TS etc and they all do the same thing as this one in regards to the logo and window resizing.
Sorry Tony.

Well the image is centered no matter what the size. So if the images have blending edges to fade to black, for example, it will appear that the iamge flows fully accross the screen width-wise.
We cant have an image that will work for every screen so we need to make it pleasing to the majority.

fwiw, I have a 1920 x 1080 and both stypes (default and red) scale correctly, and do so whether or not I have a sidebar overlay open but only fill the baner area when the window is scaled to 125% ...but that's fine with me. At 100% it doesn't spread full-width but is centered and the left/right blank space is black (nice); at 150% it truncates on the right (as expected). So that sort of says that the banner's native size is about 1540 wide or so -- a decent compromise, it seems.

Agreed. But I think that in Tony's case, it's a matter of him not running the browser window full screen as he stated. I don't think it's necessarily an issue with smaller monitors at full screen.

Guys I think there are other options that should be considered. Here are some thoughts...
First, the size of the images now is huge and in a 1024 resolution it takes of half the page minimizing the amount of information that you can read without scrolling. Second, the header does not resize itself.
I did some searching on the VB forums and found a couple of instance where people were trying to address this. Sounds like making the banners smaller and including them in a table with a fixed width cell for the graphic and a variable with cell to expand to match the forum size may be a good alternative. However, you will have to rethink your header strategy related to aesthetics.
Links to a couple of items on the VB forums

Where the title image is such that leftpiece.gif is the left piece of the image, and righttile.gif is a "tilable" piece that tiles to fill the rest of the space on the right.
This is what II suggested earlier that we redo the image so it can have a background pattern behind it that can be repeatable to give the impression of it resizing to match the screen. Either way we will need to resize the current banner image much smaller to do any kind of matching sizing. These are the traciks to make it appear to dynamically fit but we will have to sacrafice image quality and its current size.

I would venture to say there are more people at 1024 than all other rez combined. I would just resize it to 1024 and center it. Any screen set to a larger size will see the image showing up as centered above the forum so it will still look OK.

1024 is the new standard resolution to fit. It used to be 800x600 long ago. I had suggested the 1024 but was outvoted.
If someone can resize the image thats cool but I dont have FTP access to upload any files so Joker or another would have to do it.
I believe there is a margin of 10-15 px on each side so perhaps 1000 wide would be best

One more thing about it...
It's huge. Over 250K. It takes several seconds (with 7mb/sec DSL) to scan in the banner. Dimensions aside, it's probably a 300dpi image that could be brought down to 72 with no loss and would load lots faster.
It really sucks on a blackberry.

If it's taking several seconds to load at 250k files size on a 7mb/sec DSL connection then you have another issue. Last time I checked 250k is a heck of alot less then 7mb/sec connection can handle. Therefore it should take a fraction of a second for the file to load.
Maybe you should talk to your DSL provider or blackberry support group and go from there. Because your issue is not caused by this site. That's either a dsl connection issue or your phone doesn't render graphics well. I'm betting on the phone not rendering graphics well or fast enough.

I agree.....it only takes one or two seconds for them to load on my computer.

What? I get the banner as the last image loaded and it holds me up from browsing to another page. I mentioned this before but ? Its too large in filesize and I have 3K DSL too. I dont feel like upgrading my ISP connection just to view this one site. It really should be cut down in 1/2 the filesize if not 1/4
The header on my side is only 23.53K granted its not as big but its still high quality so we should be able to get ours down to 100K or less easily

No that's not what you said Tony.
It really sucks on a blackberry.
I really don't get all the issues. On my computer the banner loads at the same time as the page. I don't or can't see what your issue is.
Even with a 3mb/sec connection CD, I don't see a 350K file loading being an issue. Heck people upload bigger files then that all the time in picture threads etc. Even if it did take longer to load, it doesn't stop you from scrolling down or clicking on another link to a thread etc.
First the banners were resized to try and help everyone out and make it better for everyone. Now it's a file size issue? Come on now.:doh2:

I said both.
The loading of the banner is really different from other forums. It's noticeable on my laptop. It also appears not to cache.
The blackberry is intolerable.

Yea it's different then other forums. The banner doesn't cache because it's a rotating banner system. :doh2:
As for your BB, I already answered that. Several times in fact.
A mobile version is on the way within the next week or so.

As I said a few years ago, and is the reason I don't come here very much any more, is the size of that image. It took 2-3 minutes to paint. Blackberry or not, with the new data plans, this will count. The size of the image adds no value to the page. I'll chime in if I'm at home on the DSL (and it still is painful) but won't ever touch this place with a mobile platform of any kind that has a fixed data count.

I don't know if anyone here knows how to downsize the banner?
We aren't sophisticated enough to have an app for the site although that might be what is needed to fix this?

Not sure what you mean?
If you know a bit about how to change this or a link on how through vBulletin, let me know and I'll look into it.
I just don't have a clue where to start.
I've never had a problem from my desktop, iPhone or iPad?

I use my iPhone and iPod for the sites often and yes it's slow, but I expect it to be.
Maybe I'm more tolerant.

Twoshelgys is talking about data not time. when surfing the web from a mobile phone it uses data. Verizon had unlimited data for $30 now they did away with that. Now there is a limit on the amount of data you get for the same money. If you go over bad things will happen to you're wallet. The amount of data that a web page holds is what matters. The more stuff on the page the more data is used to load it. On my PC the banner is bigger than the page of text under it. I have learned to live with it.

That's strange, on my PC the banner has about 3 inches of black on either side of it. It's sorta small actually. I wonder if there is a setting that controls that?

There you go. The banner, at 7Mbit, takes 5 seconds to paint because of the SIZE (in Kbytes). That is too much for a mobile platform. For my data plan, (and it won't matter if it's a blackberry, iphone, ipad, ifrick, ifrack or a google phone, iti's about the size, and when Verizon charges for every byte, it counts. And that it is how it is going to be soon for everyone. Even Cox has indicated they are going to a usage model that will charge for every byte you get.

Hey Tony... Click on the bottom right and choose the new "Default mobile" style. Its very simple and doesn't have the banner on the top. Should save you a bunch of memory.
