Carroll Shelby is getting out of the car building business. He wants to concentrate on the parts business.

...however the cars were always a good place to showcase the parts............this will be interesting to see how it evolves..........parts are just parts..........more or less everyone's are the same unless you have a price advantage or quality advantage (not the strong points of the shelby stuff) or their is somehow an emotional link (like being on a car you like)

If this is indeed the case, will Ford continue to produce the Shelby? I know it is a factory car but if Carroll gets out of the car building, why should Ford continue to produce the Shelby?

Some claim that the interpretation by the press (this is actually old news - I saw this story over a week ago somewhere else) is too literal. Smaller numbers does not necessarily mean zero.

The '12 GT500 is a FORD thing, not Shelby.

This was the rumor when the GT350 first came out. Plus hte end of the Ford - Shelby contract. There will not be another Shelby as the contract was only for 5 years. 2007 - 2011

Perhaps if they lowered their parts prices they could start to actualy sell some

The reason his Parts Business is now growing at 15 to 20% a year is because he started building cars again!!!! DOH!!!!!

Bottom line is the company is failing and they have begun to make serious cuts to scale it back in order to try and save it.

IMO the company made enormously bad decisions in their overall strategy of going for looks (Bling) over engineered quality and performance. Early on they ignored valuable customer feedback in this regard and in many cases were totally dismissive and indifferent to loyal customers which in the end took them in a direction away from true performance and towards a lesser quality product and caused many loyal customers to look elsewhere for their solutions. In large part this is why they are now in the situation they are today.

There is much more I could say sighting specifics but there really is no point in doing so.

History sort of repeats itself, Ford helps Shelby, Shelby can't produce timely, Ford cancels contracts, Carroll sells parts. What's next a Shelby Dodge?

All kidding aside, if I was Carroll, at his age and health, I would ramp down the business and go enjoy live. Who needs the stress? Contrary to popular opinion, he is not going to live forever.

Just sayin'

I agree, let Ford bring back a SVT Cobra, Boss 302 and anything else they care to share with us.

I think Carroll was trying to leave something for his grand kids. But since Amy thought anything Shelby was made of gold and priced like it they had a hard time selling stuff.
Personally I would have loved to SS my car but for the price of another Mustang I just couldnt pull the trigger.
Wife had something to do with that also.
I don't know whether Ford has rights to the GT500 moniker so they may not build another one. I may wait for a couple years and get a used 11 to go with the 07.
Hopefully the price will be right and I can get one cheep.

In all honesty, the engine builders are not sure what is going to happen after the 11 model year. I don't think Ford has anything on the books right now for the niche line. Maybe this will be the last year for the Shelby.

Well the 2011 doesnt have the Shelby badging.
I thought I read that in 2012 Ford wasa producing the Boss 302 again?

The best place to find this info out is their R&D center's engineers...anything that will be produced in 2012/2013 is already well into development. Sure, they could cancel it, but what I'm saying is that they cannot start any development now and have it ready for 2012...or probably even 2013. It's amazing how long it takes to line up the production. At our company it took 6 months just to source an oil pan from a different vendor when we had issues with one.

Carroll Hall Shelby Trust holds GT500 tm.

...but Ford holds King Cobra (in process) :weg:

---

Status on King Cobra:

Ford filed for King Cobra on 28Mar'07 and was issued it's Alowance 28May'08. First Use must occur within 36-months of the Allowance date and every 6 months an extention must be filed and approved. Ford has been diligently filing extentions, the fourth one approved 28May'10. So Ford must show proof of commercial use prior to 28May'11 -- clearly for a 2012 announcement -- or USPTO will Abandon it. Though TM filings are specifically precluded as holding places for possible uses (must state full intent to use in order to even file the application) it's widely used in that vein since a plan can exist and then 'change.'

So Ford's filing are saying that they plan to certify first-use of King Cobra by 28May'11 The filing, however, is a class-12 (see below) but it's common knowledge this is typically used to 'protect' a vehicle launch. If it was just a branding exercise it would have been filed for floor mats, apparel and toy cars, etc. So it would seem Ford is planing a '12 King Cobra but could easily change their mind ...like if they extend their contract with Shelby for some reason.

King Cobra class 12 application: "Vehicle parts for passenger automobiles, namely, shock absorbers, shock absorbing springs, vehicle anti-roll bars, braces for suspension struts, exterior metal decorative and protective trim, exterior plastic extruded decorative and protective trim, differentials, gear shifts, hoods, fascia, steering wheels, seat trim, parking brakes, wheels, brake discs, brake calipers, brake pads, engines and exterior insignia badges."

(red highlight is mine ...these are the key items, imo, to protect a vehicle model)

Unles just a carryover, 2012s powertrains are already long developed and should be already well into field testing (likely for over a year already, just in earlier vehicels, etc). If the niche line doesn't have a '12 contract, then maybe the 5.4 is gone? Or maybe it's been contracted elsewhere. I remember there was talk of such at one point but wasn't clear if for real or labor-related considerations or what.

Street Boss might be a MY12 on a CY11 early track.

Could be more than one street Boss too.

Probably just the 91 octane tune, plus all dynos differ with the results. I think the FR supercharger kit for that year is supposed to produce 625 horsepower.

I think two FRPP tune flavors were offered: something like 550 and 625.

He's looking to swing by JLT for an intake and go back to the dyno.
