I got one just like that for the lawn tractor and zero turn - both are a pain to get to with the old style (not enough room) - pic one. Tried this kind because the filters were 2 different sizes so didn't want to get 2 different ones of the cap style (pic 2).

In short, it didn't work well. Wouldn't "grip" enough to get it loose. Took it back.

http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/product-info/en/US/oem/25452/image/2/I have both types, use depenging on situation. For that top one, I took sandpaper, cut to fit, and taped around the inside diameter...doesn't slip.

I've never used either but have watched them being used locally and occasionally yearn for a mig (or tig) welder to repair or fab something. Then I convince myself I don't really need one (which is true). Yeah, plasma cutter too! ;-)

Hope you do it!! They'll be a great addition to Stacey's SnapOn Garage (<=sounds like a new Discovery TV series )

I have done a lot of cutting in the past with oxy/acet torches, so plasma should be easy... I have never mig welded before, but my grandpa taught me how to stick weld... Will need lots of practice laying down beads though...

The welder I am looking at is pretty well auto setting, so I could concentrate on the welding part... Maybe I could take a class on it!!

MIG welding is fun, but hot work. Have fun buying all the equipment such as shields, gloves, specialy apron, etc. I did some MIG welding in my early days at Cummins, but we had an industrial welder and I don't remember much about it.

I still have my mig welder. Used it a ton back when I built my Bronco and Jeep. Always had better results when using gas like Argon mix, so consider that.

Not sure what is available today, did most of that in the mid 90's. Only do small stuff anymore.

I think I welded something on the original Track Turd one day when Joe was here?

The welder I am looking at is pretty well auto setting, so I could concentrate on the welding part... Maybe I could take a class on it!!If you can stick weld, MIG will be a breeze. It's the easiest of the three main types. The only trick is getting the metal wire feed rate set right. I'm no expert, but IIRC, you can't do detailed stuff (small, intricate items) with MIG, and I only did steel...not sure if you can do other metals like aluminum etc.

Cool beans!!

Curious if the fiberglass fish tape is fairly rigid, i.e. very 'pushable' ...I was thinking of replacing my damaged 100' metal (never liked how awkward the spool works either) so maybe this is a better solution.

I'd avoided fiberglass in the past because of cost and not knowing how pushable they are. Also there are soooo many versions. Also a steel fish is easily repairable if the end/eye is damaged, but I like the idea of having a non-conductive pushable fish for working in existing conduit too.

Appreciate any thoughts... Stacy, how well does the Klein reel work?

The fiberglass fish tapes are flexible and made for running in conduit only, they are no good for running in walls or open spaces!! I don't like the steel ones either, that's why I mostly use sticks in walls, and long open runs!!

Thanks ...yeah the metal tapes have too much curl memory.

Why is the fiberglass tape (vs sticks) not good in walls? Too 'wiggly' or...?

Are the sticks flexi enough to go up in a wall cavity starting near floor ...i.e. from outlet-box height?

Those sticks seem very handy ...my chimney cleaning brush uses 4 fiberglass poles that go together like that but are about 3/8" thick.

Some of the welds "look" like they are laying quite a bit "on" the metal, remember you want good penetration into the 2 pieces.

Looks like you're having some fun, Stacey! I'd love to play with that too ;-)

...can probably cut across some of the welds to check surface penetration. This fellow shows some of the technique and voltage + feed-speed tradeoffs on penetration depending on the type of joint (outside/inside) ...also shows how to check for weld penetration using a mild stainless steel passivation solution on carbon steel -- he's working in 1/8" carbon steel but the principles and tradeoffs should be the same. 7 min vid:

I have that one's little clamp-on brother ...did a similar refub this past winter.

Found it at a yard sale. It was all rusty everywhere it wasn't lighter blue. Fellow didn't even know he had it -- it was half in the dirt floor of his storage building and when I pulled it out he wanted $5 ...got it for $3  I have a couple others but this little one is just so handy!

I was going to strip the paint and remove the rust and fully restore it but it had such character I decided it should bear it's former tough life proudly -lol- so I just cleaned it up, filled in the missing paint/chips with dark-blue, quenched the external rusty parts and then sealed everything. Inside everything was fully disassembled, wire-brushed and lubed.

I use it all the time ...it's a survivor! ;-)

Next up another good degreasing, then primer and paint... I have to wait until the snow and rain stop, and it warms up...

...for sure ...real good price anywhere, I think ...75 ton can handle most anything you'll encounter :faint:

onecrazydog
04-26-2017, 02:09 PM
Up to 800 with two hours left... I might not get one... Not raising my bid price, I can get a 50 ton press for 900 bucks, that would be lots of power for what I need... A 20 ton would work fine...

onecrazydog
04-26-2017, 02:28 PM
I see one bidding number bidding up on all of the presses... I think it is a local wholesaler who is reselling them...

onecrazydog
04-26-2017, 02:53 PM
I upped my max bid to 1400, if he wants the 75 ton one I do, he is going to pay 200 bucks more for it... Still a good deal if I get it...

onecrazydog
04-26-2017, 02:56 PM
900, hour and a half left...

The 100 ton press is up to 5 grand... The sniper is out of that one... Lol..

onecrazydog
04-26-2017, 03:20 PM
One hour left, still at 900... The sniper is bidding on all three of them... Has to be a wholesaler around here... If so, will find out who it is, when they go up for sale...

There were 3 or 4 of us bidding on the lifts and then one bidder bidding on all of them, the sniper... So I am not the only one po'd!! You have to put a non refundable deposit on a ritchie bros auction, so scammers can't be bidding them up...

onecrazydog
04-26-2017, 04:22 PM
They went for 16 and 17 hundred bucks... More than I was willing to pay... The sniper didn't go that high either...

...but you bid smartly, dog! ...not wed to the item and sticking to the price

...there will be more.

yeah, 75 ton is overkill -lol- but what the heck -- if you can get any decent capacity rig at a good price. I saw a 50-ton on their site that sold for $1000 in Edmonton.

Yes, there will be more!! I can get a 50 ton for 900 bucks, might go check it out tomorrow!! The three at the auction today went for 11 and 12 hundred dollars... I knew that was too high... 1700 hun here on a 75 ton press is awesome, but you are right, way overkill...

Sucks losing though, I am not very good at it... :rofl3:
