...and that's with a correct, but not original, 2x4bbl 427.

Incredible that these were running 12s in the hands of magazine reviewers and 11s in the hands of real racers :faint:

These suckers just looked great too!

Two of my bro's friends had 63.5 FB Galaxie 2x4bbl 427s (not the lightweights) -- awesome cars! :chirp: The kings of the fabled Connecting Highway! ;-)

What's cool about cars like these is they were thought of, designed, built and sold with the end user in mind, NOT company or dealership profits in mind nor collectability.

Nice find, with a little more than 200 made, there are likely not to many of these left.

Yeah, it was about giving racers something they could win with -- I would not be surprised if Ford made nothing on those cars.
Too bad so few survived -- most were probably beaten into the ground...
These '63.5 lightweight Galaxies seem to be the precursor to the '64 super-lightweight Thunderbolts -- more of a good thing. The battle was on! ...and these Galaxies were cleaning up in the stock classes.
Of course when Ford tried the SOHC 427 in NASCAR and NHRA both orgs booted them (initially from stock classes in NHRA) -- too fast! ...that's when the SOHC went into the 'rails,' I think, with much success ...in the Shelby "Super Snake" dragster, Connie Kalitta's Bounty Hunter, etc... I was like 15 or 16 then -lol

Here's a standard-weight 425HP 427 2x4bbl ...est $75-100K :faint:

---

Back in 1963, Ford was about to become the performance king, both on the track and in the showroom, with its legendary 425 horsepower, 427 cubic inch big-block V-8 with dual four-barrel carburetors available in its Thunderbirds, Galaxies, and Fairlanes. Of the cars fitted with the new powerplant, it was Ford's full-size Galaxie 500 that stole the show. The 500 was based on Ford's newest NASCAR efforts and proved to be an instant sales success.
