Three videos -- first two address toughness, third towing up 6% towing 7000# vs 5.0 ...amazingly, no contest!

Yeah, the little 2.7EB is a gen-II EB at 325HP
The gen-II 3.5 EB is 600+ in the Ford GT but HP/Tq not yet released for 2017 Raptor -- first volume vehicle confirmed to get it ...rumors are around 500 but I think that may be wishfull thinking ...probably more like 420-450, I'd guess.

Dan, a few questions....
1) do you know what engine oil is needed in these EB cars vs. non EB? Any different?
2) Does the turbo use engine oil or have a different oil supply/type?
3) Are oil change intervals any different?
I wonder about degradation of the oil due to "coking" and the high temps that turbochargers cause. In my experience in the diesel world the turbos can be punishing on the oils.

In my SHO the oil last a long time. I go by when the cars computer says to change it. Around 4,000 miles I think. I use synthetic oil so i dont worry about it braking down becuse of the turbos. The turbos get there oil from the crank case. I bet the Ford GT will have a dry sump system so the oiling will be a little different. I am not sure about my truck. I hear nothing about it on the Powerstroke forum.

I believe it's 5W-30 for the EB equipped vehicles. Personally, if I was doing my own oil changes, I'd still go to the service department and buy the Motorcraft stuff. I figure that way it helps protect me, the owner, if there is ever a warranty claim (assuming you keep all your receipts). I bet the oil change intervals aren't much different that the NA engines. Most new vehicles these days have pretty large intervals between changes. My assumption to this is a) oil quality is better these days (plus high quality synthetics) b) engines and their supporting systems are higher quality than their older counterparts and c) considering many OEMs now offer "free" maintenance service plans for the first 36-50K miles, it's in their best interest to reduce the amount of actual services being performed by the dealerships. BMW services are every 15K miles, so you really only get 3 "free" services with a new BMW (considering you keep them that long).
I'll let Dan answer the rest, since he's got the large tech head. lol

I bet the EPA told Ford that they had to sell more fuel efficient trucks so they put the V6 in them and turned up the turbos. With out the turbos a V6 cant be as powerful as a N/A V8. Also Ford could get way more power from the V8 if they wanted to. Also last years truck weighed 700 lbs more. Not a apples to apples test. Since Ford sells more trucks than cars its easy to see why Ford did all this development I just wonder what they will do in 2030 then the fuel millage standards hit the roof. I wish my truck had the aluminum bed. I could put 700 lbs more in the truck for haling.

Here is a link to an article about coking and turbos. http://www.custom-car.us/turbo/lubrication.aspx
I believe the factory EB uses a water cooled system for the turbo bearing housing.

Yeah, water + oil on the 3.5, I beleive. Never heard of any coking issues with the EBs -- even under max-load towing and in torture testing ...possibly b/c of how they're cooled -- dunno -- but that was one of the key design bogeys as I recall.
These days I'd use full synth on anything hi-po -- it just holds up so well ( I even us it on the tractor now! ..and my Generac specs it and the snow-thrower recommends it).
I'd read some time ago of folks sending semi-synth and full synth from their 3.5 EBs out for testing at 4-5K miles (when Ford 'computer' was saying it had around 50% life left, as I recall) and full synth's lubricity tested far better...of course they both have similar contaminent levels ...that's largely a function of the metalurgy (especially early-on), and the overall condition of the engine itself, as I understand it.

Someone ask about the crappy mileage on EB cars and trucks?
Our diesel is still getting a couple MPG better !

Yeah, in the old vids it destroyed RAM Hemi and 6.2 Chevy -- same course.
With the right package 3.5EB can tow up to 12,100 (was 11,300)# ...not sure what max tow is on 2.7EB is but I think with the right package it's around 8,500#
