View Full Version : 07 GT500 - "KR" Style Hood

Hey Everybody. Does anyone out there have one of those Trufiber "KR" Style hoods on their GT500...07 or any year ?

Trufiber makes 2 "KR" Style looking hoods...the A53KR and the A54KR...seems to be some small differences between the two

It hard to tell from the on-line pics, thought someone might have one on their car.

Thanks

I don't.

I "think" the difference was on the underside of the hood and how it was molded/vented...if I'm remembering the right hoods. Lol

From what I can tell from pics, the one looks like the KR hood and the other one looks like a Super Snake Hood...they seem to have subtle differences
They both have a functional ram air tract that opens up right over the cold air set-up..
Looks good.

I like my stock lightweight aluminum hood over the heavy fiberglass composite aftermarket hoods. :look:

I went ahead and got the TruFiber A53KR Hood. Best looking "KR" style hood that I could find. From what I understand, it weighs about 40lbs.

I got the set of the shelby hood pins as well. Having it painted next week. Should have it all completed in a couple weeks

Oh...and yes...Need the Farmdog to get set-up so I can put the red stripe back on !

I realize its been a while people have done this mod, but I'm just now installing a "KR" Style hood on my 07 GT500. I'm studying the different approaches others have made when it comes to the hood pins. I have the Trufiber A53KR Hood. I could go with either the Shelby Parts Store hood pin kit that has now changed with those plates that attach to the rad support but that would put the pin right through the KR hood scoop...not good. Apparently, there is an separate install kit that is needed that places the pin in the hole the hood bumper went in. That would solve my problem, but Shelby tells me that Kit is out of stock. I'm going to call them and make sure its not discontinued. If its not discontinued, I could go with the recessed hood pin assembly approach.

I see some have used the Tony Branda parts hood pin set-up that was used on the 1968 Shelby..apparently, some have had success with this set-up on their 07-09 Shelbys
http://store.cobranda.com/19shcohopink1.html

Anybody here done this hood swap ? If you have, please let me know how you mounted your pins the the rad core support area.

If you have this hood with the recessed hood pin assembly, how does your assembly work ?
Kinda stumped here, just don't want to start putting holes in my new hood until I can get all the right parts
in my hands for one approach or another.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I haven't done this install but have done hood pins on other vehicles. It seems the radiator support is not always the best place to attached them and losing the hood bumpers isn't the best plan imo. While you are thinking of how you want to do this project, think L type brackets attached to the radiator support allowing you to position the pins where you want them. Just a thought.

Are the hood pins a must have?

I've put hood pins on a car before, but only because using it on a track at constant high speeds.

Or are you going for a certain look?

I think ATI did a bunch of work on hood pins when he had his car. Maybe he'll chime in once he's back from vacation.

Yeah... but he can give advice on the various hood pins. I think he used at least 2 different kinds - he had a SS type hood too.

I have no experience with a fiberglass hood, but I hear they flex or shutter a bit. Some say they see this happen at 55mph-60mph, while others say it only happens at 120-130mph and up. I'm not that crazy about the look of hood pins,
but would rather drill the holes in the hood prior to the painting rather than finish the job only to find that I need them after the fact. Figure, I'll just go with the pins to reduce any unwanted movement and to increase safety.

Hi KC...its been a while.
Bummer on the Farm dog deal.
Know of anybody in MO that does this sort of stripe thing ?

Tommy Gun

The stripe guy in our area does a great deal of his work at our Mini Cooper dealers since many people want stripes on their hoods or over the top on those model cars. Perhaps a shot if you have a Mini dealer near you to ask who they use?

Or maybe even ask at a local Mustang club or their website if you have one close?

My KR hood had recesses where the hood locks go and fastened to plates bolted to the rad support over the removed rubber hood adjustments. Additional hood adjustments can be added to the inside lip of the fender, this was done on all OEM KR hoods.
On my Super Snake hood we position them where we felt they looked best and then recessed them into the hood. Then we fabricated a bracket that mounted to the front of the rad support for the locks to fasten to.
My best advice is to find the BEST body man / painter thats available to do this. From experience I can tell you that the fit, finish, color match, stripes, etc. is a Fvcking nightmare.
Good Luck

Ha Ha..trying not to have the same nightmare. Found a local business that does incredible work with vinyl graphics. They have done many mustangs in the past in terms of stripes and they are making me a custom
stripe that will work with the TruFiber hood. Got the shelby hood pins that will fit in the location of the front 2 hood bumpers. Yup, I'm lucky, I have a great body shop here that I have used in the past that does
awesome work. I'll post some pics along the way.

In the meantime, I put on Evo Stage 2 so to get the most out the this change over.

Thanks for your compliments.

Was thinking of putting the SHELBY lettering across the front of the hood...like the KR.

Anyone done this ?

Looking for a template of sorts to lay these out correctly....its not linear like the trunk lid is...
