Even I have to say DAYAM! Video to Video calling only on ipones but still at the $199 price I think apple will retain alot of its customers. Just as long as they can make the connection service-wise to do the video conferencing :rofl3:

I'm just psyched it has a flash. Now if it would only allow Flash, I'd be even happier.

Regrettably, Flash will never be on an iPhone.

What's "flash" ?
Adobe Flash for Flash video's.
From what I understand HTML 5 will more or less eliminate the need for Flash. Here's hoping.

It used to be called Macromedia Flash. It is what most You Tube is viewed in as well as most of the video on the internet. Also used for Flash games that are able to be played in the browser. Apple does not support it on the iPhone and it can be a problem although there is a YouTube viewer for the iPhone.

I can't wait for the iPhone 4. I'm going to pre-order next week when the pre-orders open up. It will be a big upgrade for me from a 3g iPhone.

This is correct and it may slightly take a hit to Silverlight too. Flash will take a bigger hit though

I wouldnt switch to AT&T since they also just announced they are doing away with the Unlimited Data Plans and will be charging on a Per Megabyte Plan instead so they can make more money :nonono:

But if you already have the unlimited plan, you can keep it. I have the unlimited so I'm grandfathered in. But I can't do teathering with my plan.
If you use wifi alot the changed in the data plan will not matter and will actually save you money from what I have seen.

I don't know much about this stuff, as I've never owned a cell phone. I do have a Blackberry now, but it's work-issued, so I don't really know how the service plans work. So let's say wife and I want these things for phone/internet. We'd need to buy two of them right? That's $400. Then we'd have to sign a minimum 1 year contract, right? How much would such a plan run for two of us? I'm sure it varies, but do you pay per minute talked? per hour of internet? per text message? Give me some examples, as I'm sure there are a variety of ways you can buy the plan.

I have a family plan from AT&T. It is 59 for the first line and 10 for each additional line. I also have the 30 data plan for my iphone. Although new iPhones can no longer get that deal as of today. My plan includes 850 shared min. but cell to cell is free. With 5 lines we don't usually use more than 500 min. a month so the balance each month is banked. I have probally about 4 or 5 thousand min. built up. I also have another charge for unlimited text message on all lines, I think it is about 15 a month.
I think the plans are a little higher now with more min. but I have had mine for a number of years and don't plan to change.

...boy...sounds almost exactly what we have, except only 4 lines, and my youngest is the only one with an unlimited data plan..
....had an issue with my old razor phone last night (complete discharge for unknown reason, had been fully charged) so this got me thinking.....am overdue for a new phone.....and my wife gave me $200 for a new camera last Christmas.....could easily apply to this phone, and also get a pretty decent camera to boot.....shame about the unlimited plan going away....but I am not that big a user anyway....can use wifi or my home systems for large file downloads....and who knows, maybe existing customers are grandfathered, or maybe having a member with an unlimited plan will allow others to also obtain....doesn't hurt to check.......I would think the main thing is to not try to watch too many large videos.

I called last night just to verify that I can still get the unlimited for an iPad I ordered. They told me the unlimited change for now is on all data phones, not just iPhone. If you do not have an existing unlimited plan on the line you will have to go with the new data plan. i.e. Sounds like your son can keep it but you will not be able to get the unlimited plan for you line.
Doesn't affect iPads yet but looks like it could.

I would likely use less than 30 minutes a month, seriously...I just don't talk much on the phone. I would probably use it for data much more, to read email and do web searches, etc. I assume you can get almost any service on the iphone? For example, Vonage, Verizon, AT&T, etc? Does Apple have their own service?

AT&T only on the iPhone right now. Unless you unlock it and use it on another carrier. And with iOS 4.0 coming out, not sure how easy that will be.

Someone will have it cracked within a week or 2 & then have the software crack available in another couple weeks.
Some see it as a personal challenge to crack things like this.

The iPhones OS will be cracked in a nano second after release, the issue is Apple can detect with their diagnstic software if an iPhone has been unlocked if you ever need it serviced.
You face two issues with an unlocked iPhone:
1) You will be unable to update the iPhones firmware via iTunes unless you revert the iPhone back to it's original state and even then it may not update after being jailbroken
2) the warranty on the iPhone will be voided if you augment the OS as when the phone first turns on you accept an agreement in iTunes to not do so.
I have seen people freak out at the Apple Store after being told their $600 phone has no warranty because the OS has been jailbroken.
The first 30 seconds of the freak-outs are usually entertaining then quickly become annoying as hell.
That said, all the NERDS (Developers and Programmers) that work for us Jailbreak everything, their PS3's, iPhones, BBs, Androids etc. They just don't like being told NO when it comes to thier compertes and gadgets and like JD said, take it a a personal challenge to break it. They really consider closed computing environments a nuisance.

Agreed that it will be cracked. But it took along time for 3.1.3 to be cracked. A few months if I rmemeber correctly. That's why I'm still on 3.1.2.

Well those people were idiots for taking a JB phone to the apple store in the first place!
From what I have found out in the past, once you JB a phone, it's just a simple restore and it's placed back into the stock settings and is no longer jail broken. Pretty sure unlocking is the same way as it's just a software hack and no hardware is changed or modified. DFU mode is easy enough to get into and do a restore.

.....my youngest hacks his phones pretty good, and pretty quickly.....and passed up a chance at the last version of the iphone because he just found it easier to avoid that software...for some reason he just felt it would be a lot of trouble.

...and found out enough today online and at the att store to decide to march down on tues and pre-order two of these things.......one for me and one for my oldest........wife gave me money a few months ago for a new camera...so this will fill that need quite nicely......just sucks that the unlimited data plan is not available anymore, but since it hooks to wireless....any large file transfers will be done that way......to pre-order, you pay full amount in advance....and must pay with a credit card....phone sent to your residence.
....question....can one of these be used for skype teleconferences??

There are going to be more options available. RadioShack, Best Buy and some others will also have the iPhone 4 on launch day as well as pre-orders that you will be able to pick up on the 24th in store. I know that radioshack will have the pre-orders and if you do it on-line they only want a $50 deposit then pay in full when you come in and pick it up. I found this out today and I might go this route so I can pick up the phone while I'm still at work and not have to wait to get home.
By Monday all options will be know for sure. I'm actually guessing that by Friday everyone will say how and where they will be available.
