They post new track cars on Facebook every week.

Must be nice to know people and drive their cars. :banghead:

I don't blame for taking some relearning time. The new car has more horsepower, epas, and many other diverse driving characteristics. I'm sure you will find the edge, when you are ready. I am really curious what you think of the car once you had the chance to hot dog it.

+1 I'm betting this car will be more stable on the edge once you get retuned to it.

Wow! Yeah ...wonder if a defect failure or if it got 'fried.'

Bill, just curious, has the diff fluid been changed very recently or just before the race? Also, does this car have the TackPak?

Fwiw, asking because, for road racing, these diffs NEED the fluid changed often (back for the Boss-S I vaguely recall the spec amounting to every race), and it really NEEDS the cooler for road racing ...Raj Nair had mentioned that in one of the vids early on. The Conti Challenge cars (350RCs and Boss-S&Rs) get Torsen fluid changed every race too and with the restrictor those 'sealed' engines probably make no more HP that a stocker, tho they are likely pushing them harder.

Then again, might have been a fluke -- who the he!! did you buy that POS from? :haha: :hiding: :jk:

Tommy Gun
02-21-2016, 01:37 AM
With that said...I wonder if a fluid change would would cure?

To me it is like a ratcheting, like the locker is locking, unlocking, locking...even saw the tire do that jacked up in the air.

With what you said, thinking maybe the fluid was out of spec enough to not let it "smooth" ratchet to where the noise would go away and it would slip properly.

I had the exact same T2R in my other car (and now in the GT500) and never heard a noise before.

The car has track apps and is a performance pack car, but don't think it has a track pack?

Hmmm ...I don't think a Torsen should make noise like that unless something is already not right. I don't think a fluid change would fix it (tho can't hurt) ...I was more thinking it might have prevented it. A Torsen should be perfectly smooth in turns like your T2R was/is. I'm just guessing, but it sounds like one of the bias gears (or bearings) may be damaged and not permitting a smooth/continuous diff bias. In a conventional LS diff the clutch pack provides the bias but a Torsen is all gear.

Tommy Gun
02-21-2016, 11:35 AM
It still worked great on track. Just felt the ratcheting when back in the pits.

Will have to have it pulled and checked.

Is the non-R the one you bought?

Is the suspension factory stock? How did it handle? How was it vs your old track turd?

Did you also get to drive the R? Differences on-track? (...the R's track mode has unique programming vs the vanilla with performance/track pack)

Throw some friction modifier in there

Wouldn't hurt but it's a Torsen -- no 'clutch-pack' in the diff like a conventional LSD which really needs the friction modifier.

Never seen an R before. Tucker's GT350 is a regular w the tech package and track apps.

Mine has Eibach springs that Tucker added and an intake and tune, rest of performance stuff is stock.

Even ran stock tires and they worked great.

Ok, the Tech Pak and the Track Pak are mutually exclusive.

Tech Pak (67T) gives you Magnaride, Integrated Driver Control (IDC), HD front springs, audio, Sync-3 with full entertainment system, upgraded power seats, A/C and some other electronics and convenience goodies.

The Track Pak (60T) also gives you Magnaride, IDC and HD front springs but also includes the deck lid spoiler, aluminum tower-tower brace, and the all-important Engine oil, Trans and Diff coolers. Those last three are essential for on-track according to the development team -- mentio0ned in a vid that if you'll be doing more than a few laps of spirited on-track driving you want the Track Pak. Just mentioning since the pieces may well be available through FRPP.

Bill, how long did you have the Torsen T2R in Turd-I (like several races or several hundred track miles or more?) ...it had no cooler and no problems, right?

Tommy Gun
02-21-2016, 11:09 PM
I had it in the TT I think a couple years, 7-8 weekend events. No issues, but always changed fluids.

I take it the GT has the "same" T2R, but not positive.

You sure the GT350 has a trans cooler? I thought the guys on the GT350 forum were waiting on Ford to come out w/ one.

Yes, trans cooler -- I just checked the order guide.

Not sure if all GTs have the T2R or just with the Performance Pak (or whatever it's called on the GT).

I think the GT350 Torsen (vanilla and R) is bias-optimized for the 350, so must be a different part number if I'm remembering correctly.

On the GT you get a limited slip only, unless you order the performance pack which gets the Torsen with 3.73 gearing.

The '13/14 GT500 performance pak also includes a trans cooler (and diff cooler) -- the pump is mechanical and integral with the '13/14 TR-6060 transmission so maybe they went a similar route in the 'new' GT350 trans. I know the GT500 trans cooler is NOT retrofitable into the GT's MT82 but *may* be similar/same to what's in the GT350 -- dunno.

Like it better than your other track turd?

Some things I like better. Having been the first time on track and not pushing it super hard, hard to say.

First couple runs...the shifter sucks. Sloppy all over the place. After getting use to it it was a little better, but I think in the long run I would prefer a tighter shift pattern.

The seat...sucks. I had a halo seat in the TT and it really held you in and let you concentrate on other things. My side and my knee hurts from trying to hold myself in around corners. Knee pressing against door panel almost constantly to hold me in the seat. May have to bolt in a halo seat for track use.

Power was good (when I could find the right gear), Back straight in GT500 was 155mph, in Track turd was 125-130mph, in this car being new was 130 but with time could be upper 130's. Helps make up some time overall.

Could use a trans gauge because I hear the MT82 can easily run hot. (Ford has talked about releasing a cooler for it). GT350 has a diff trans.

Rear diff apparently can use a cooler :banghead:

Has an oil temp gauge, but only says low-normal-high. :(

Could use a water temp gauge.

Didn't notice any excessive heat though.

Stock tires were actually pretty good. Should be able to run the whole weekend in April without buying new tires beforehand. :wtg:

Now for the brakes.

:wow2:

Did I say :wow2: yet?

At the track we have always run 25-30 min sessions.

This weekend we had one 1 hour sessions (really tires you out!)

I was amazed that the brakes just continued to hold so well w very very little fade felt.

After about 35 mins there were some tight corners that I could tell the tires were getting "greasy" meaning overly hot, but the brakes just kept going.

At home checking the brakes the pads front and rear hardly look used also and the rotors are in great shape.

W the TT running hard the pads and rotors would last a weekend and a half at most.

Is that close to half a page?

Will anyone even read it now that it is Dan sized?

Should I condense it? :look:

Bout right. I guess you don't have the Recaro seat option, elst you wouldn't have the factory heated and cooled seats. I guess you could duct tape a pillow to your knee until you get a better seat.

After market shifters are available.

I think I've seen pillar gauge pods on line for the 2015-16.

You might be able to adapt another year cooler for the diff if one is not available yet for your year.

Good news about the brakes though.

Can't be a Dan post -- too many blank lines :haha:

Great feedback, Bill!! Keep it coming! ;-)

Amazing the stock tires are so decent. The R has an even more track-specific variation of Michelin Pilot Sport tires (I forget the actual model) so maybe they're a good choice for replacements when the time comes? ...or would you go to slicks (probably would eat Torsens quicker -lol)?

Amazing the base 350's brakes are so good too ...and holding up so well -- great to hear!
The R has different brakes, I believe, but dunno how easily swappable they are ...or if the R's rotors and calipers would even clear the alloy wheels.

Is that Tucker's -R? Did he have it on track?

Nope.

Which brings up a good point.

It gets really hot when we "usually" go so the cooled seats will be really nice.

Im going to hope that my harnesses help with holding me in the seat better rather than having to swap in a race seat. :wtg:

Been looking where to buy some. None of the big places are stocking it.

A local pharmacy chain just opened up a store right down the street. One of the owners is a new neighbor, so I went in to see if they could get some c-pap supplies for my machine. As I was waiting I looked around - it's kind of a mix of a pharmacy (they have lots of "home healthcare" type supplies, as well as lift chairs, about a dozen wheelchairs/power chairs etc) and half is like a country store of old (candy, alcohol, wind chimes, birthday cards... etc!).

On the bottom alcohol shelf, in the corner, was Climax Moonshine!!

Think I'll grab a quart for the weekend and report back how it is. :gulp:

Looks like the three coolers and R-spoiler [edit: and tower-to-tower brace] will be standard on the base model GT350 for '17 -- that's how needed the coolers are for any extended track use.

See this thread for details on the '17 as they emerge...

They gotta make $ any way they can I guess. Plus, it's good for competition. Keeps prices sane if everyone is competing to get Tim drunk. :giggle:

Minnesota only allowed liquor to be sold in true Liquor Stores (which also sold beer and wine). Grocery stores could sell beer and wine, but no liquor.

...it's not a locker ...Torsen's don't lock/unlock ...they bias torque with gears. Still doesn't sound right.

I guess other wheel was also off the ground and DS was not disconnected? May be one of the bias gears/bearings in the center section making noise since they (bias gears) would have to rotate, I think, when you were doing that ...hard to tell but doesn't sound like ring/pinion heavy noise ...sounds like a lighter weight part than that.

The stock wheel is leather = slippery

Stock GT350 wheel is Suede = not slippery

Makes a big difference on track.

I changed out the original track turd steering wheel too.

Bottom of the GT350 wheel is also flatter which is nice getting in and out of the car. :wtg:

Six piston Brembo for Dan. Not red like the GT350. And a one piece rotor, unlike the 2 piece GT350's.

My '74 Capri 2.8 was brown ...the paint, that is ...loved the car, didn't love the color so much but was soooo hard to find a dealer that had one and would sell at a good price -- this was before production was moved to the US in '76 (when they got a little 'porky' -lol) and the '72s and '73s got such rave reviews in the trade press. '74 was the first with the Federally mandated 5 mph front 3 mph rear crash requirements  but Ford of Germany did a superb job only adding about 45# overall to meet the new standards. Great car -- but it was brown!! ;-( lol

Couple things.

First one is a 4.6 2V motor he says he dynoed at 18psi boost. I kept it at 5psi because the motor cant even handle if it gets close to 10 it would grenade. :haha:

Second, he says it was built by All Aspects Racing Team. All Aspects is a local small shop that does repairs and gave me the sticker that is on the side of the car. They wish they had a race team. lol

I already contacted the shop about the ad and false advertising.
