Some hot rumors now looking very real -- and is good news for '17 GT350 buyers
The Track Package pieces (aluminum strut tower brace, continuously controlled MagneRide Damping System, and transmission and differential coolers) are rumored to be standard on all 2017 Shelby GT350. Those track-focused bits were already standard on the Shelby GT350R. This is great news since anything more than a few laps and you NEED the coolers.
The Shelby GT350R’s taller rear deck lid spoiler will also be standard on the regular Shelby GT350 for '17. Lightning Blue (completely new, I believe), Grabber Blue, and Ruby Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat are newly available exterior paint options, while Competition Orange and Deep Impact Blue have been deleted.
A new Electronics Package is to be available for the Shelby GT350. The package includes a nine-speaker audio system (AM/FM/SiriusXM/single CD) with SYNC 3 and voice-activated navigation, dual-zone electronic climate control, toggle switches, side view mirror-integrated turn signals, universal garage door opener, and more. This sounds very similar to the '16 67S Electronics Package -- not enough info to tell what the differences may be.
The new Shelby GT350R Electronics Package includes an audio system, rearview camera, auxiliary gauges, floor mats, and a tire inflator and sealant kit. Presumeably this replaces the 67S Electronics Packages that was an R-option on the '16.
For 2017, a new Convenience Package replaces the Technology Package. The Convenience Package includes the nine-speaker audio system with SYNC 3 and navigation, automatic dual-climate control, toggle switches, leather-trimmed sport seats with Miko sueded inserts (replaces cloth Recaro seats), heated and cooled six-way power front seats with driver’s side memory recline, four-way adjustable front head restraints, turn signals integrated in side view mirrors, and a universal garage door opener. This package in '16 was mutually exclusive with the Track Pack but since the later is believed to be standard for '17, this is great news!
Pricing has not been released for either the '17 Ford Shelby GT350 nor the GT350R, nor any of the packages. If Ford gets back onto the 'normal' schedule for the '17s, which I think is likely, there should be more info around St. Patty's day. We shall see!
Will be interesting to see how much the now-standard goodies (R-spoiler and Track Pack goodies) bump the base pricing ...probably not all that much!

Is it too early to say I'll have a 2017 GT350? In the fastest colour of course. :look:

As which? It's not the same as one of those (either Liquid or Performance) but it should be identical to the show cars, as I understand it. Can't tell which though I've seen FGT, GT350, Raptor and RS (haven't seen the Fiesta ST) up close and Ford rep at 2 shows told me (last year and this) it was Performance Blue. That notwithstanding, this is the first time I've heard anyone call it Liquid Blue -- now Lightning Blue. Yeah, it is a beautiful blue with just enough darkness/opaqueness and metallic -- especially under those high color-temp show lights.
I was told by a Ford dealer that the Focus (vanilla Focus) was orderable in the same color last year and I went to look at one with a friend but I don't think that was correct -- that looked a tad more blue ...so hard to tell tho.

I wish on those really wild colors instead of making the entire car that color they would use a more "tame" base color and then stripe and accent the car with the wild color. A very dark metallic gray with the grabber blue stripes and seat inserts would be really neat IMO.

Blue is the fastest color. Why do you think the Ford uses the blue oval as it's corporate emblem? :look:

Randy Probst is absolutely in love with the 2017 GT350R ...ran a 1:36:11 around LaGuna Seca and that included overshooting a corner with no drama.
Nice Vid! ;-)

It's been done (custom build) just because you can. But to do so would be deplorable! :giggle:
Seriously tho, you can SC anything but it destroys the finely-tuned NA magic of this car ...increases the inherent FPC vibration and screws-up the car's balance, etc. -- there is no FRPP kit for it because it's deemed inappropriate. :shades:
Why not just use the 5.0 ...the 350 heads are available as is FRPP kits with warranty ...with the FRPP Whipple and 5.2 heads there's around 650HP and around 780 with the traditional aftermarket goodies: pulley, LTs and, of course, MAF/injector/pump upgrades if/as needed.
Of maybe a 2018 cross-plane crank GT500 will do it all for ya?

A naturally aspirated 500 hp is the bomb on a road course. A supercharger just adds weight, heat and more unpredictability.

Mustang Shelby GT350R with Innovative Carbon Fiber Wheels Wins Popular Science Best of What's New Award
DEARBORN, Mich., Oct. 19, 2016 – Ford’s multi-award-winning Mustang Shelby GT350R has added another accolade to its collection – a 2016 Popular Science Best of What’s New Award in the Auto category.
Each year, Popular Science reviews thousands of new products and innovations and chooses the top 100 winners across 10 categories for inclusion in its annual Best of What’s New issue. To win, a product or technology must represent a significant step forward in its category.
“The Best of What’s New awards honor innovations that shape the future,” said Kevin Gray, Popular Science executive editor. “From life-saving technology to incredible space engineering to gadgets that are just breathtakingly cool, this is the best of what’s new.”
The 2016 Shelby GT350R won the award thanks to its ultralight carbon-fiber wheels – the first of their kind on a production car.
The two front wheels are insulated with a ceramic thermal barrier coating adapted from technology that is similar to what NASA used on the space shuttle. Each 19-inch carbon-fiber wheel weighs about 15 pounds less than an equivalently sized aluminum wheel, improving the vehicle’s acceleration and handling.

Here's a coupe pics I took at NYIAS of the labels inside the CF wheels:
