View Full Version : Cruise control doesn't work

Crappy SHO. I got in it the other day and the collision system was on the fritz. It's also connected to the cruise control so that doesn't work ether. Had a message that the sensor was blocked. I got home and removed the cover and there wasn't nothing there so i replaced the cover. Still same thing so I unhooked the battery and left it over night. Next morning hooked up battery and everything worked. Not so fast Grasshopper. As the day went on after a few stop and starts it was not working. Now it says malfunction. The fuses should be good because it worked for a while. Guess I have to take it to the dealer. Crappy SHO. Runs good though :nonono:

The more tech they add to these cars, increases the number if things that can break or wear out.

Disconnecting the battery likely reset the code ...just took a while to re-diagnose whatever the issues was.
What's the collision system?
Didn't know Ford had a collision system in the SHO.

Blis.
Blind spot system.
I'd check the battery first. Today's cars need a strong battery for all that electronic stuff and being your car is what, 5 years old?, probably getting close to time. :hiding:

Ah, yes ...BLIS
Like Carnut said, all the complexity ...has to impact reliability somewhat.
Batteries have lasted so long on all the old cars we've had. Had to replace the battery on the '09 Fusion already ...after only 6 years (early 2015). Funny how it went because I fill/check levels, clean and check cell voltage 2x /year and it had been perfect ...then, within 6 weeks of the last check, one cell went belly-up. It would take a charge and check ok after the charge but would not pass the overnight test. I think it was sulfation shorting the plates in that cell. Parasitic drain from the electronics can do that. Lead acid batteries like to be replenished quickly after drain and don't like to be drained down a lot.
Meanwhile the battery in the Ranger is the same one that was there when I bought it used in 2003, but I use an anti-sulfation (high-frequency) maintenance charger on that one (Battery Minder). I'd use it on the Fusion but my darlin' would not well tolerate having to open the hood and unplug it :nonono: :rofl3:

I forget to unplug my tender every now and then. :nonono:
Usually realize when extension cord is ripped from underhood, lucky enough no hood damage yet or cords wrapped in pulleys. :ohsnap:

I have adaptive cruise control. It sucks. I wouldn't never get it again. It measures the distance between you and the car in front. if the guy is driving slower than you it slows the car down. It also applies the brakes so you don't have to. it doesn't stop the car from what I understand. In some corners it sees other vehicles and hits the brakes. Not good when I'm doing 80 and there is a guy behind me. Its good on a straight road though. It's connected to the cruise control so that doesn't work. It also has a collision warning system. I make it go off all the time so I had to turn off the chime. It would scare the wife. LOL. Car goes into the shop on the 7th. Getting a Sync update and a steering recall.

Mine sits on the vents on the hood. You cant close the hood all the way. It sits sideways so the legs hook onto the lovers.

Good insight, Art -- thanks! I've often wondered how well adaptive cruise works. They should make so you can turn the adaptive feature on/off easily (depending on conditions) and also adjust how aggressive or laid-back it is.
I often use cruise as a 'catcher' speed, e.g. I'll set it at 75 (as a 'catcher,' so to speak) but will drive with my foot at 78-85 (or whatever). I wonder if adaptive cruise will still try to brake even if speed hasn't decreased yet to the cruise "set" speed. I suspect it will brake anyway. Have you noticed if it will?

That sounds pretty perverted, sicko. What you do with your lovers isn't our concern! :nonono:

When you set the cruise and step on the gas to go faster than ti says cruise override. When you let off the gas the cruise takes over again. When in override nothing works like the braking but the warning light goes off id the closing rate to the guy in front is to quick. Now since the radar doesn't work the cruise doesn't ether. Its a stupid system. You can adjust the destance between you and the guy in front of you. No way to deactivate it in the car. I will ask the tech if they can do it.

Sucks that even in cruise override it will annoy you with the light if approaching too quick/close.

Dang speeding old timers.
Probably leave your turn signal on too. :nonono:

That way you don't forget to signal. I like to leave the hazard flashers on myself so I can turn in either direction.

I take all the bulbs out of the car. All that unsprung weight removed made the car faster.

What would it have been without?
And that's a for sure fix? Ie, if the put in a new one some places will charge for the swapped unit even if it doesn't fix it since electrical parts are considered non-returnable.

Doing this at ford dealer.
I can't believe how many problems we have had with this car so far. only 66,000 miles. It's my wife's car so she drove it the most.

She drives like a grandma (no offense to grandmas) If there is a truck in her lane she will follow it forever. I cant let her drive if I'm in the car. Its kills me.
I let her drive on a trip for about a hour so i could rest. She drove so slow I couldn't sleep.

When did you marry my wife? We're not divorced.
I do let her drive on long trips usually some stretch of interstate between big cities. By the time I let her drive I drop off like a rock for a couple of hours.
