It may depend on what anti-virus software you have. Norton doesn't whine for me.

Me neither.

Were you on this thread with no issue to begin with and then the issue started?

Click any attachments on the thread if there before?

It is working for me.

When I clicked it from the "New Posts", I got the message.

Tried to go into it again directly from the forum area - it briefly opens and half a second later the red screen of doom pops up.

Still can't get into it.

That is how I go to the thread to and get the same error immediately. I am using Avast security.

Not sure what security my work laptop has.

I had Norton check the page -- no issues.

Try clicking link below which goes directly to page-2 (vs page-1) ...if it's a security sw issue it should still do it. If it doesn't do it, then might be some other problem.

UPDATE: > I had Norton check the SU page -- no issues, but if I try to go to www(dot)tangiers(dot)us (ostensibly a tobacco products website), I get hit immediately with Fake Browser Attack which Norton fortunately trapped <whew> but I can see that page grayed-out underneath ...so that page IS the evidence of the virus.

Sounds like the attack either was trapped or got through somehow to you? Possibly Malwarebytes would find it if it did depending on if/what it left behind or possibly your antivirus SW trapped it (as did Norton) and what you're seeing is also just the residual of the virus attack? dunno.

But why you go to 'tangiers' when trying to go to SU is a mystery ...unless the 'tangiers' Fake Browser Attack has inserted a redirecct in your registry ...dunno, -- if so, Malwarebytes may find that.

OK the link to page 2 works for me. However when I tried to go to page 1 from page 2 I got the same error message. How is that explained?

Well, dunno for sure, but when whatever sw/virus (if so) established the [hypothetical] redirect it could only do that from the page-1 address at the time since page-2 didn't yet exist.

If you've logged into SU recently from the machine it's doing it on (vs always stay logged in and just click-through from an email notification), might want to change your SU PW ...just in case ...and run Malwarebytes (after updating it's database).

I normally view SU in Chrome.

I have Firefox locked down to prevent Cookies, Tagging, Tracking, info marketing and so on, This prevents websites like Amazon, EBay, American Muscle Cars and such from tracking me and showing up on other websites advertisements. I also use it to look at attachments or links posted in SU threads for the same reason. So I opened SU in Firefox and was able to get to page 1 of Crickets then immediately got the warning from my anti-virus application that this is an infected site, not the Red Security page, and it identified the website that Dan listed earlier as the culprit. I ran the Virus Scan as suggested by the Anti-Virus application and now I can see the page in Firefox. I went back into Chrome and tried to open page 1 but got the same error message.

That kinda nails it as a virus. How they installed the re-direct and where is still unknown. If it has a registry component to it, it may still come back depending on how thorough the AV s/w was. If Malwarebytes doesn't cure it (after permitting it 'fix' anything it finds) it may or may not still be on your computer ...the browser, user-data area, and registry itself can be infected too. Some viruses are very clever in that they can re-infect even if mostly removed but 'phoning home' for a refresh whenever you reboot from (using a 'corrupted' registry entry). The 2010 Fake Security Virus was like that and antivirus software was ineffective in removing it entirely. Malwarebytes eventually figured out how to remove it 100%. It's a case of smart folks using their talent to do evil things -- to score brownie point with their azzhat friends on the dark-web -- sickos.

I started the Crickets thread and we could just kill the thread. There isn't really anything in there.

Not a problem Tim we are just being Geeks and trying to figure out what is causing the issue. The thread is not an issue.
