The additional revenue will be used to enhance the visitor experience in parks. Learn more about the changes, what they mean for you, and how the additional funds will be used.
Why is the price of the Senior Pass increasing?
The price of the America the Beautiful – The National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Senior Pass is increasing as result of the Centennial Legislation P.L. 114-289 (https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-bill/4680/text) passed by the US Congress on December 16, 2016. You beat me to it! My wife has hers. I thought I'd gotten one a year or two ago but can't find it so we'll take a trip up to the Lake Mead entrance and get a new one.

Tony, do you know if it still admits all occupants of the vehicle? Used to be that way -- or does each person have to get one now? I didn't check.

Obama already screwed Medicare (sucked out $864B/year to pay for Obamacare) before he left, so I guess it was only fitting he raised the Senior NP Pass before he left too ...effective 8 months later.
Another little-known law change under Obama is that Medicare rate can now increase for existing 'capped' recipients by virtue of the fact that, when SS COLA increases occur (a maneuver around the 'no harm' 'freeze' clause), existing recipients will now see little or no cost-of-living SS net benefit since the cap will be de facto raised within the COLA increase in years when that occurs -- b/c Medicare will (and has for 2017) simply inhale. IN effect COLA is more or less gone. New recipients still enter at the then current normal rate.

I don't think it's related at all to Medicare. The Park Service got an edict years ago that they should be self supporting. I remember a steep increase in Grand Canyon Colorado River trip fees in the 90s due to this. And park entrance fees went from a dollar or two to 25-30 for the bigger parks (Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountain park, etc).
Anyway, the increase was tied to the price of the standard one year all parks pass. So basically you pay the same price as the old annual pass but it's good forever. I saw the annual pass go from 35 when we first got to CO to 75 the last time we got one...

Obama should go down in history as our first communist president. Hillary would have been 1000x worse.
Is all of this part of the rats nest the republicans are trying to unravel? If alot of this were explained to people they wouldn't be so against what they are trying to do.

Hmmm, yeah, maybe worth getting two while they're still cheap. Friend of ours retired from NY Conservation Police and now works at one of the National Historic Sites here that isses them ...I have to call there and make sure they have them to sell ...maybe next week.
