Anyone understand this?

We're sending this notice to you as a reminder that Google Chrome has officially marked non https websites with a "This site is insecure" notification.

This is due to the an announcement https://blog.chromium.org/2018/02/a-secure-web-is-here-to-stay.html Google made back in February that Beginning in July 2018 with the release of Chrome 68, Chrome will mark all HTTP sites as “not secure”. With the release of Chrome 68 Google Chrome users will be prompted that their connection is insecure anytime Google Chrome thinks you're sending or receiving sensitive information.

Do you wish to avoid the "Not Secure" Notification? If so we are pleased to announce that we offer a wide range of SSL certificates as part of our product portfolio. We have partnered with some of the leading Certification Authorities (CAs) in the world like RapidSSL, GeoTrust, and Comodo. Best of all, you will be able to purchase these recognized and trusted SSL certificates from us at much lower rates than buying direct. That’s right, the same certificates you would get from purchasing direct, but at lower prices.

For an easy comparison of our certificate offerings we have a table in our wiki comparing them at https://www.knownhost.com/wiki/security/ssl#purchase_an_ssl

When you purchase an SSL with KnownHost we can fully handle not only the installation for you, but the certificate creation from start to finish including domain validation. All you have to do is answer a few questions via a ticket/email and we'll take care of the rest!

Use coupon SSLJUL2018 now through the end of July to save 20% off any SSL purchases! Don't know which certificate is right for you? Contact us and we'll be happy to help!

We thank you for your continued business with KnownHost!

Regards
KnownHost

Just means that, like most forum sites, the traffic on this site is not encrypted and the Chrome browser will now reflect that. I don't think it really matters.

I have SSL Certificate on my business website because I cam gathering personal information as well as payment.

Most of the other forums I belong to have the SSL Certificate but I don't think that this forum is at a level of participation and information exchange to warrant the need for this certification.

Ok

So it’s an encryption process for sites that share personal data to help hide that info?

Correct

The general trend is that all web sites are moving towards the secure link, ie https vs http, especially those that have any kind of login. For example, this site's log in info is passed unencrypted. Like most people I use a common password since there is no way to remember all of them, but I use a different one for unencrypted forum sites.

It would be nice to migrate to https.

There is your answer from a professional in the industry. Check with the Hosts that you are looking at, some of them include this with the service.

I will add that of the 5 car forums I follow only Team Shelby is secure. Their update that people didn't like updated the forum software to a version that uses SSL. (Actually, SSL has been replaced by TLS.)

So since they updated I will never be allowed back in? :(

This message was from our current host Knownhost.

Haven’t looked at how much they charge to do this yet. :(

How many times/year do you log in ...I leave the site's "remember me" turned on so I never need to log-in. Log-in is the only secure thing anyone does. Do we really need htpps certification for 15-20 people whp log-in once every year or two? Besides, if someone were to hack someone's ID here, what would they steal? It would be obvious and we'd just shut them down.

If https is a freebie at a hosting site being looked at, great! But otherwise it's not worth an annual/monthly fee for us, imo.

The only other transaction on this site is the "donate" button and that login is passed through to, and secured by, PayPal -- transparent to us.

Yes, forum sites have been hacked but they are large and typically support online transactions/purchases -- we aren't and don't do that. Besides we've had zero weirdos attempt logins now in several years -- since all the 'evil' countries were block-address blocked.

Just some thoughts.

Depends what user name and what forum you’re referring to? :look:

We had SSL's on any Banking sites we were hosting or eCommerce sites. We've since started recommending it on all sites and added to approximately 360 sites this last year.

This website is now officially secure. The SSL/TLS Certificate has been installed and tested. I no longer get the insecure warring on my computer or iPhone.

If you are having issues, clear your web browser cache and it should be good after that. Might want to create a fresh bookmark also.

When I just came to the site Microsoft trapped my access. It said the site is not secure - stangsunited.com could not provide a valid security cetificate as of this day: May 19, 2021. We recommend you go back and do access this site. I did anyway so I could get here. So it sounds like the security certificate expired? I remember we bought that some time ago.

At the top of the page in the address bar it shows: a red triangle with an exclamation point in it followed by Not Secure | https (https://stangsunited.com/)://stangsunited.com/ (https://stangsunited.com/).....

If I click the red triangle it shows this pop-up warning:

Your connection to this site isn't secure
Don't enter any sensitive information on this site (for example, passwords or credit cards). It could be stolen by attackers.

I see Robert actually processed us and posted in this thread that we are secure as of May 20, 2019, so sure sounds like something expired since it'll be exactly 2 years at midnight.

So maybe Robert just needs to renew our SSL certificate?

No wait.... I meant Joker.

So I paid for the new cert a week and a half ago, but didn’t know there were other inputs that needed to be done.

Highwayman brought it up this morning, I relayed it to Joker and he took care of it.
