Statement on China’s Auto Tariffs AnnouncementDec 14, 2018 | DEARBORN, Mich. (https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2018/12/14/statement-on-chinas-auto-tariffs-announcement.html#)
DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 14, 2018 – In response to China’s announcement that it will reduce tariffs on U.S. produced vehicles to 15 percent, Ford Motor Company released the following statement, attributable to Joe Hinrichs, executive vice president and president of Global Operations:
“As a leading exporter of vehicles from the U.S., we are very encouraged by China’s announcement today to reduce tariffs on U.S. produced vehicles to 15 percent. We applaud both governments for working together constructively to reduce trade barriers and open markets. Last year, Ford exported nearly 50,000 U.S. built vehicles to support the growing auto market in China.”

But but but...all they are doing is bringing them back to where they were before Trump started poking them. They need to drop them FURTHER.

I agree! ...and most Chinese market cars (considerable larger than the US market now) are made in China by US companies.

China does a lot of bad things besides the trade stuff. I know China is a big market but they hate us. Maybe if companies would allow Trump to put the screws to China than everyone would be winners. I think we need to stop them from stealing our technology and hacking our companies. To open a business there you have to give the government access to everything you make. If the world would stand behind us China would come to the table and do a deal good for the world and China. President Si was elected for life. He has nothing to worry about.

He's a dictator 'elected' via the mirage of a pseudo election.
Trumps tariffs are hurting them a lot ...their stock market is in the tank and their economy has compressed by some estimates to about 2/3 of it's former peak. This is why Xi will ultimately negotiate and give us a decent chunk of what we want in terms of a level trade playing field.
As far as stealing our tech, China will agree to that too -- all for show -- and then continue to steal all they can whenever they can. But we must, at a minimum, get them to agree to not require tech turnover to do business there. Like I said they will still do everything they can to steal everything they can (both there and here) regardless of any agreements because it's worked for them so well -- to the tune of some $3.7T USD by conservative estimates (maybe as much as $12T USD in actual damage to the US since Billy boy Clinton brought them into the WTO with no accountability whatsoever!) -- and they know recourse by the US is problematic: difficult to execute and inherently politically problematic. Besides, they know hard proof is arguably difficult and byzantine and potentially exposes that which we try to protect (both the tech itself and our sources and methods), thereby forcing us to loop back to trade actions and the politics that goes with that.
They are chess players and are patient -- they have openly stated their intentions to overthrow our influence in the Pacific in the short term (hence the illegal militarized islands they've built in the Pacific so they can pimp their 'protections' to that region) and globally between 2030 and 2040. If that happens the world will become a very different place. Between their growth and Obama's debilitation of our military we have eroded from being able to successfully wage three wars simultaneously (China, Russia and Iran) to only one "with an uncertain outcome" according to the latest assessment done just several months ago.
This is why a super strong US economy is critical, else we WILL succumb to China -- only a matter of when. Clearly the democrats either failed economics or only care about their political power (I say it's the latter). If the US continues to focus on a robust US economy as our highest priority, we can both politically and financially afford to still rebuild, but it will be a daunting challenge given the damage previously done -- and not just to the military ...our infrastructure is a shambles too: RRs, airports, bridges, roads all need realistic roll-over plans ...none of which currently exist because we are in such high debt and China holds the largest portion of it!
They are not dumb. But neither are we. However, they are focused and we are in a state of catatonic politics when it comes to what really matters vs pimping the votes of illegals -doh- and such and mind fuching the majority of the population via a profoundly biased media that has abdicated it fundamental role.
It's all connected and I've not see one POTUS address it all as Trump is trying to do -- an uphill battle and non-deterministic outcome for sure.

Trump has the right idea. Trump said something interesting the other day that I found interesting. He doesn't want Chinese students in our collages. they may be spies for China. made sense to me yet it didn't get much play. We need to squeeze them a little harder. Trump is on the right path.

He's right -- they're called "turtles" by the Chinese government. They come to get as much cutting edge science as they can in various fields China Inc deems critical focus areas (e.g. AI).
That said, there are also Chinese sons and daughters of well-to-do Chinese businessmen who are not government moles, but it's virtually impossible to tell who is who. Few Americans realize that nearly 25% of ALL STUDENTS IN OUU TOP 20 UNIVERSITIES are foreign nationals. The universities love them b/c they cause no problems and come with money in-hand -- fully paid.
I think there needs to be a system to vet all non-citizens before we give them access to out higher education institutions. We as a country also benefit from their hard work in Doctoral programs and post-doc lab research -- all the more reason we need to know that foreign nationals are not moles of one strip or another here for 8-10 years -- turtles stay that long (sometimes longer) by design b/c they intend to rise to a high degree of post-doc influence before returning, that way they not only return with information but also with deep contacts and the ability to run a lab and expand on such research when they return to China, or wherever.
