Any tricks to storing an engine for a long time? There are some obvious things, but I'm torn whether to wrap it in plastic to keep things out because it would keep any condensation in and rust? Maybe use a rust inhibitor dessicant in the bag? Anything to keep rodents out? They make 4 mil engine storage bags. Probably will remove valve covers and loosen rocker arms, then drain carburetor and oil pan? I'll put documentation in with it. Seal up as many holes as I can...what type of tape should I use...will duct tape make a mess? Other ideas?

Use to know a guy in FL who in the '60s had access to the one-off Ford engines after testing. He used to sink each one into a 55 gal drum of oil and seal it up. Not every practical.
Seriously tho, if anyone would bought the DZ down the road will be restoring it (vs just dropping it in a Z) it really doesn't matter how it's stored. It can even be left out in the rain and sun for years ...won't hurt if one bit since it would have to be fully stripped for a quality rebuild anyhow ...every nook and cranny, journal and bolt hole. Seriously.

If it’s a Honda engine, just throw that crap out. :look:

Not a bad idea to loosen all the valves because that would close the valves to keep moisture out of the cylinders. I would put some oil in all the cylinders to lube up the pistons. No need to scrimp there. I would but a liberal amount if the rings leak it will just run into the pan so not a issue. Plug all the holes to keep the beavers out. Put a bag on the carb to keep moisture out of the intake manifold. Leave the spark plugs in but put some anti seize on them. You defiantly want to turn the engine on its nose to make sure all the water is removed from the block. I would leave it that way for a couple days to make sure. If you have room buy a engine stand. they are cheap. That way you can move it around if it gets in the way. When you bring it out of storage there are some things you need to do to do that.
