I agree the new one is pretty weird looking, but I bet it will sell like crazy. Even though starts at $50K :nonono:

What has my interest is how Toyota has been making these deals with other car manufacturers to create a sister car to the other manufacturers cars, especially BMW. I am not understanding why the other car manufacturers are doing this, after all they are competitors.

Yeah, it is curious. Maybe for Supra they feel there's little overlap and not worth the investment to do the engine on their own but they can still serve up for that crowd. Or maybe it's a touchy-feely pilot (in essence) to see if broader joint development can work. But, for Supra, will Supra lovers see it as a real Supra? Dunno. Maybe the motivation is more 'political' in some way since Germany's attitudes on letting in competition has been highly exclusionary -- partly policy but largely a buyer nationalism bias (no such sensibilities in the US when it comes to 'foreign' cars -lol).
Ford is in the process of inking a joint development deal with VW (specifics unclear beyond press releases) and has already inked one with Mahindra (now in stage-2 and also unclear beyond press releases). The former is curious, the latter may be to also amp up acceptance into the HUGE and rapidly growing Indian market where they have alredy invested heavily and in which Mahindra (historically a commercial agricultural products company and largest tractor maker on earth) has seemingly decided to greatly expand into a full-line auto manufacturer.
For standards work it makes perfect sense (Ford and BMW working together vs GM who seems to want to go a different route on 'smart cities infrastructure', tho most still participating in both approaches) but for product it is curious ...and interesting for sure.

I like these "types" of cars (2 seat, lightweight, sporty), but this one looks like a jellybean IMO and they don't mention the weight. I had a supercharged 1989 MR2 that had only 150 HP but was quite fast 0-60 and very fun to drive...I think it weighed about 2,380 pounds IIRC. Sold it in 2005 to a guy in Seattle and the following week it won "Best MR2 in show" in the Pacific Northwest MR2 show.

Toyota has been doing this a long time. BMW, Subaru, Chebby, etc.....

I knew a couple local guys who had pristine MR2’s a while back...guessing a great car with how much they loved them.
Personally I’ve never had or seen a foreign car I’ve ever wished to own.
Back in the day of dreaming of cars the worse thing was always anything foreign. Back then the foreign cars always burned oil, needed parts and or were always in the shop.
Seriously
That thought from back then has tainted me to never buy a foreign car.
Just can’t do it.

Yeah, but just haven’t seen any personal real world performance from a ricer, euro, etc. car....
Only promising car after some mods have been some Subaru’s around town....
