View Full Version : New Posts Count Not Functioning as of This Morning

No big deal but I thought no one was using the site today because the new posts count has been on "0" all day.

Just for the heck of it I clicked the pull-down to "View all new posts" and, sure enough there were several.

Just wanted to mention.

New post counter still not working correctly.

It seems to be counting from the last "mark forums read" time. It accumulates from that point but does not get downcounted when a topic/post is read. Mark forums read and the counter goes back to 0 and starts up again.

It also seems to reset overnight. It's not tied to browser session and not tied to the computer cycle (e.g. sleep/hibernate/reboot) but each morning it is reset w/o me using mark-forums-read, tho that also seems to reset it. Also, if you log-out and back in (which I don't normally do for weeks or months) that also resets it to the correct current count but that's a 1-shot deal.

Like Joker mentioned, it's a plug-in (user supplied plug-ins are not part of the licensed and suppoted vBulletin sw) but it is very handy. Possibly the plug-in owner will eventually update it for compat w/latest vB sw, if s/he hasn't already.

spent some time on vB forums searching for post-count plug in update for 4.2.5 but could not find anything ...doesn't mean it's not available since I don't know where to look -lol

Strange. It seems the new post count actually goes up the more posts I read.

Lol

I see it now. I’ll have to see if I can find the parameters on it.

Wish I had a moderator to help look...

Have we forgot about this issue or has it been determined that it cannot function properly with the latest update?

Mine seems to be working lately, what is yours doing now?

When I first log in, it seems to show the correct count, but after I view unread threads, the numbers either stay the same or go up.

Read all threads, mark forums read resets counter.

Next time visit counter is accurate. Reading threads does not count it down. Mark forums read will clear it. Leaving it alone and the new threads after this visit accumulate.

Lather rinse repeat.

Mine (either browser) shows no number when there are new posts -lol. After they are read i stays that way and if you re-access later and there were no new posts in the interim it will then show the number that WERE new (which you've already viewed), but if there were new posts in the interim it will, once again, show no number. So I sort of ignore it and just click "view all new posts" in the pull down which works fine.

No way. I have never marked threads read. It would always automatically count down as I was reading thru threads and posts. At least it didn't that until the latest update.

Seems different things are happening to different people. :(

Probably since I made Mr White a moderator when he won out Tek. :banghead:
