I'm tied up already almost every weekend in April, then the first track day is first weekend in May and again two weeks after that.

Tied up w/ things to do for the next couple months for fun, hope it doesn't end up feeling like I'm keeping a schedule...

It provided no "cool down" when you were in it - was too close to the outside temp (was between 95-100 this weekend).

I still say 80-82 is the highest - unless you're trying to make it warmer than the outside during the cool spring or fall weather, but then it's still too much like a hot tub.

Last time she made us go we went to the Va mountains, the flooding there was worse than at home. :nonono:

and on the way home we couldn't get gas, electricity was out everywhere. :nonono:

i believe it is always! better to ride it out since we are 10 miles plus from the coast.

68fastback
10-27-2012, 12:58 AM
I'd stay home for this one ...even if it hits VA Beach dead on (models say it's probably going north of you and the strongest winds are to the north of the storm center) the peak winds will only be 70-ish ...still no joke but safe to be home, I think, once you tie stuff down, etc. Who knows, the track is still changing but all the models show only a tropical storm at landfall. Now, if you were close enough to the water for ocean flooding to be a concern, then yeah ...since it's a full moon and there will be two high-tides during the period it will be hasseling the coastline. jmo. Could be worse in the mountains since trees in full-leaf and soft ground could wreak havoc there (like Irene did in upstate NY). Be safe.

The Bone

Saw this afternoon's NWS update before dinner ...it's now going to turn west later (more north) around central NJ so should mostly miss VA, Bill. Models show it then heading +/- due-west until it hits the cold front, then making a 110* right turn and heading NNE right across PA and right up here :faint: Last model I saw they upped the gust estimates for here from 27/45 to 57/75 mph. We're high and dry, but it's the trees that will wreak havoc here (like they did for Irene) -- on structures and power lines ...and the oaks still have leaves to catch the wind.

As long as nothing hits the house/garage we can do without power/cable for a couple weeks if we have to -- both cars filled + 2 cans give us 10-14 days of 8 hrs/day generator use. It's colder this time around but still relatively mild: 50s day high-30s night, so not too bad at all. I sure hope the mountain towns that got mashed by Irene don't get flooded too bad this time ...most of them are broke and some just got final road/bridge re-builds completed this past august.

Looks like NYC will get some bad storm surge since they're 100 miles or so north of landfall and much of coastal Brooklyn, Queens and most all of LI is barely above sea level -- not looking good but could be a lot worse.

I guess it could still change again -- we shall see. NWS issuing another major update tomorrow afternoon sometime.

It's gooing to slam NYC bad -- will likely be the worst storm ever there. They announce mandatory evacuations in NYC zone-A (most flood prone) -- about 380,000 people. NYC is expecting 8-12' storm surges or more ...across 3 high tides.

It's going to turn inland further north than originally prediceted (S of NYC), so whatever you're seeing in VA is proabably all you're gonna get. You lucked-out, Bill!

For us it will be the wind. I've stuffed everything in the garage and tied-down everything else ...have ladders up against both garage doors with the car and the truck pinned against the ladders (so the garage doors are braced for high wind). I'm just hoping we're as lucky as we were last time (lost some trees but NO damage to house or garage) Looks like there will be less rain this time -- we got 15" from Irene ...this looks like it will only be 5" or so, but the winds will higher and last longer -- they're saying 1-1.5 days. Hope Dan and everyone else in the path stay safe.

Thanks, Joe!

Can't beleive it! The power is still on (tho it has 'wiggled' a little) -- truly amazing since the power goes out here all the time.

Looks like the storm made landfall a bit further south than anticipated (around Atlantic City?). Lower Manhattan is underwater -- ConEd shut the power down to prevent losing the whole lower Manhattan system ...some pics of underground transformers flaming out looked like July 4th!

The latest projection shows it going west thru 2/3 of PA before turning north across west-central NYS and the eatern part of L.Ontario, so we might not see anything worse tomorrow than we've seen so far (our county still says widespread and long-duration outages for here but I'm hoping not).

Would be aweseom if we dodge this one!!!!!!!!!!! But who knows ...Orf might get some high winds by tomorrow night now.

---

NYC got trashed! Still over 1M w/o power down there, .5M in CT and another 146,000 up here in the Hudson valley -- except for us ...we TOTALLY lucked out this time. :yippee:

Mass transit in NYC won't be back for several days (likely longer in lower Manhattan) -- widepsread flooding in lots of residential communities. My buddy is going to at his friends' limo company in Queens and walk into Manhattan to work this afternnon and sleep at the hotel he works at. Airports still closed. Some bridges will open this afternoon. Tunnels flooded. NYC is a mess.

Total damage now estimated at $20 billion :faint:

We've tried reaching friends on Atlantic Beach (only 5 houses off the beach) who decided to say on their second story ...talked to them yesterday, OK; today, no phones (house or cell) working. He's a retired NYC detective and is very resourcefull so we're hoping they're ok and phones are just out.
